This is getting ridiculous. Look, I like the hustle and effort as much as anyone, but it's for nothing if they can't attend class and keep out of trouble.

I don't want to dish out any unnecessary information, but I lost a ton of respect for the team when I heard some of their antics earlier this season.

Not going to post. PM me if you HAVE to know. Otherwise all you need to know is they're doing a bunch of dumb **** high schoolers do. Not illegal. Just stupid.

The question is, is this something that basketball players have been accustomed to over the years and now they aren't being allowed to do it under the new regime? My completely uninformed guess would be that this stupid stuff has been allowed for years and it's hard to change the culture overnight.

I really hope so, because this sounds awful Croomtastic. Man, I hope Ray doesn't have the hard-headedness of Croom. Feel fairly certain he wasn't given an endless lease though, like LT gave the Croominator.

You would think, but the only bad attitude left over from Stans is Wendell. It's just lack of maturity.

ETA: I'm not "in" with the team or coaches or boosters, but I attend classes with these guys and run around in some of the same social circles. Just trust me when I say that Ray isn't BSing about the lack of a leader and that's why this team sucks. If there was one single guy everyone on the team listened to there wouldn't be much trouble going on.

I'll say this, I'd rather Ray be a hard *** in a year where he basically gets a pass anyway than in a year where a win or two will determine whether we're in the dance or not. At least this year he's at least showing potential players that you can't just come here and act like a ********.

Like any good coach- you set the tone of your program in Year 1- you can always loosen up some- but you cant ever start lax and then tighten down.

i guess to an extent I respect what Ray is doing

suspended indefinitely.

This season is history anyway ,so why not instill a little discipline? I am worried though about the future and if Ray will keep this no nonsense approach during his tenure? What I mean by that is I wonder if Ray will be able to recruit top quality talent at MSU that will also abide by his strict standards of not 17in up academically or socially (smoking weed) . We are not a program like Duke or Kansas that can recruit the best athletes that also are Rhodes Scholars . Stansbury probably understood this and took a few chances on guys that werent the best citizens , but he knew if we wanted to compete and win at a program like MSU he was going to have to take a few chances on some players. Hell, look at Andy Kennedy taking a chance on Marshall Henderson . That kid has all kind of baggage and supposedly drug issues . Do you think he really wanted a guy with Henderson's past on his team? Probably not, but Kennedy knew if he doesnt make the NCAAs this year his is most likely gone, therefore taking a chance on the kid.

Basketball doesnt have to be treated any differently from football or baseball

You can have a program that isnt full of weedheads and problem chilren...Ray is not doing anything Mullen or Cohen doesnt already do. The problem is that the leftovers from the Stands regime are having trouble with being disciplined and being held accountable. They will either conform or they will transfer after this semester.

Man this **** is giving me a headache and I don't even have to worry about making substitutions. Ray is 2 injuries away from forfeiting games at this point. Can't the disciplining be done in other ways besides suspending players? All Ray is doing is hurting MSU, the players who aren't 17ing up and the MSU fans at this point.

Not Stans' players. 150% guarantee you if Bost or a vocal senior was around A. We could play transition basketball. B. There would be someone kicking their asses for getting in trouble.

Say what you will about Bost. Nobody wanted to win more than him, and the only time I ever saw a fault with him was him being pretty blatant about how much he disliked the HC.

The only guy available to be a "leader" is Lewis, who we have known has a bad attitude for a long time now. Steele is a good kid who makes good grades. It's unfortunate his name is getting muddied right now but he is a pretty quiet dude. Great teammate, just not vocal enough to be "the guy". This team becomes Sword's and Ware's this off-season. We'll see how they manage next season.

Not sure how anyone could have lost any respect for the players Ray inherited. I don't know that I've ever seen any coach step into a worse situation. I just hope he can get it straightened out.

Believe me, Ray is not hurting anything by suspending the idiots that don't get it. We are not going to win again until next year so a suspension here and there hurts nothing.

I just pray that we don't have any transfers at the end of the year. That would be crippling.

I'm not saying anybody is transferring at this point- but if some of the leftovers feel like they cant abide by the rules and stop smoking weed- then they will probably go somewhere else.

I can when as a fan I have continued to go games (I've veen to every homegame this season and watched every single game on TV) even during a 10 game losing streak and they continue to take a **** on my fanhood. To be clear, he inherited Lewis, Johnson, and Steele and two well-respected individuals at walk-on spots. You act like he took over a full early 2000's Baylor roster.

Renardo and the rest of Death Row Records left. He's dealing with the majority of guys who have never known anyone else as a college coach.

Then Ray and MSU should be proactive...

and should add the 2-3 players to this years class before he lets the transfers screw him for next year just like this year. Look at UK's signees right now. They have 6 guys signed. They only have 2 seniors I think. Kentucky knows attrition is going to happen and they already have planned for it. MSU and Ray however have capped their signees at 3 which puts MSU at 13 IF everyone comes back. Odds are that's not happening so I think Ray should sign 2-3 more players and when the attrition happens MSU will already be prepared for it. Ray has 9-10 months before next season starts to get 2-3 more players or he'll start another year with not a full deck it looks like. Will Ray add ANY walk-ons for next year too?

And why I said Ray isnt doing anything Mullen and Cohen isnt doing. You fail a piss test- you get suspended. It's pretty simple

And how many Freshman have been suspended?
I personally wasn't referring to anyone other than freshman and sophomores.

MSU AD has a strict policy on athletes and class attendance. Most of my classes only call role for student-athletes.

Football players don't skip. Fact. In my 4 years here they NEVER skip. It was a miracle for Beckham or Ravern or really anyone else to show up. I'll give you TWO players who played for Stans who made boneheaded mistakes for missing class. I'll raise you lack of maturity and stuff that has gone undisiplined by Ray's guys.

You come to MSU and play for Ray to become a man and learn how to conduct yourself professionally in basketball and a career setting. There's no one at the top saying "Yeah, Ray isn't messing around. He suspended me for 3 games once for skipping class." Everyone is on a learning curve. It's going to take years to implement discipline here, I get it, but damn it's frustrating.

I refuse to believe Steele and Johnson are bad guys. I've met Steele before and he's a smart guy. Didn't take a shortcut with his major either and actually wants to get a good job after college.

Wouldn't it have a game length attached to it? I'm pretty sure our suspension lengths for failed tests are set in stone, so what is up with all of this indefinite crap? It sounds like Ray is overly trying to be a hardass here.

From what I've seen in the past, it appears the university policy is to suspend indefinitely for drug offenses and not disclose any reason for the suspensions other than "violation of team policy." That's exactly what happened with a couple of basketball drug suspensions last season and unless I'm mistaken in other sports as well. This is no different than every other time has been.

It will be for three games. They won't come out and give the amount of time because it won't be too difficult to backtrack into why he was suspended.

We cant sign anybody else until someone leaves- you cant oversign...as far as Kentucky- my guess is that some of the players on their bench are walk-ons

If someone leaves after the season- then we have the chance to bring someone else in as we did last season when Ray was hired.

Why are people all the sudden failing piss tests?

Just curious. Players definitely weren't worried about it when I was in college, football, basketball, and definitely not baseball. Are we giving more tests now? Or were we giving the same number of test before but players were being tipped off ahead of time? Or did we just let them cheat? Or have the tests gotten harder to beat?

And that could very well be his logic too. He knows we're going to lose maybe a record number of games this year. So now is a good time to establish what they can and can't do. Next year, if we're more competitive, perhaps the players will have learned what's not acceptable. If not, just keep enforcing the rules. I support Ray's hard nose approach. There's no reason the players can't act with a little self-discipline just like most other students do. It's not all about winning.

Well, I know of one situation from last year. We knew the NCAA would test us on our European trip- so instead of making everybody on the team go and get one NCAA test out of the way- we let a certain player go to Houston so he could "work individually with a former pro"

Kentucky only has 13 players on their roster right now and only 2 of them are seniors so that would mean they only have at most 9 scholarship players and more likely 8 because Twany is a senior and I doubt he's on scholarship. That is amazing to me. How can UK be getting away with this because I seriously doubt they only have 8 scholarship players on a roster of 13. They have 6 guys signed and 5 of those are 5* rated players.

Ray is also pretty intelligent ... has a degree in mathematics if I'm not mistaken. Therefore, he understands the value of a college education and is trying to teach that to the players. After all, they're going to school free ... might as well get some use out of it. I support Ray 100%. Whatever the guys are doing needs to be cleaned up.
