where took a whole episode to show how Jack got his tattoos and then never revisited all that again. (Jack was way out of character that episode.)

That's the Bai Ling episode -- that was some dumb ****, but at least it had Sawyer and the rest of the Losties.

didn't like them giving answers just by introducing more questions. Me, I kinda liked it. Felt cheated that it took up a whole one of the final 3 episodes, though.

but it left me with more questions. mainly

1-how
did jacob figure out how to get off the island?

2. the whole
scene between Jacob and smokey, smokey said, "you have no idea how bad i
want to kill you." it seems like smokeys body was laid to rest, but
then it appears in several other episodes.

the samurai and
smokey had the same knife....

when he threw him into the...whatever that was last night. As Smokey, he can take any form he wants, as long as the person is dead on the island but not buried (i.e., Alex, Yemmi, Locke, Christian). But now that Jacob is dead, he's stuck as Locke. God that sounds so stupid to write.

Hemasqueradedas Richard's wife that time. I think he can just scan a person's memories and appear as a dead person that the person would care about.

They failed to tell us, just calling him brother. MIB can leave the island, but someone must take over and become Jacob(probably Jack).

I think the only way MIB can leave the island is if Jacob is dead and there's nobody left (candidates) to take over for him.

I guess that's the writers stretching their own rules, considering the contrivance around getting Locke's body back to island.

Esau...

I'm going out on a limb, but I think Jacob might be the "evil" in this whole scenario. If you're going to use the Adam and Eve metaphor then mother and brother (I think his name is Esau) were the good ones, corrupted by Satan.

How did the Jacobs brother learn how to play back gammon? He didn't even know what death was or what a ship was.

If you care to get super Lost nerdy, look up the meaning of Lucifer. The literally meaning "light-bearer"

Kate was super hot. I thought the episode was ok, just hate that they wasted a whole hour this close to the finale and we didnt get to see any of the main characters.

As Jimmy Kimmel said last night, it would be like if the 3rd to last episode of Seinfeld featured only the Soup Nazi.

The whole show pulls aspects from several different religious beliefs,
but is never going to be definite or follow any one belief completely.
Here's my theory:

The island can be compared to Eden, with the fake mom in last night's
episode being the angel who guards the entrance to the biblical Garden
of Eden. However, it does not follow the Eden story completely. The
tree of knowledge of good and evil from the bible has been replaced by
this cave of light. The fake mom is both the Jacob and Man In Black in
one. She decided to split these two personas or spirits from herself
into two when her new replacement candidates arrived. That is why she
thanked MIB when he killed her because she knew that Jacob (being the
good) would never do it. She also knew that Jacob would send MIB to
the light cave since she had told him how horrible it would be to go in
there. She had also led Man in Black to believe that he could never
leave the island which was not true. However, once he bacame the smoke
monster, he could not leave the island since he is alive as an evil
spirit only.

Jacob- Jacob is the "good" protector side. This does not mean he is
free from sin, but he represents morality. He was able to leave the
island and recruit his potential replacement. He has "interfered" in
the lives of all the Losties to test them to find the best suitable
replacement. Jack is the only replacement candidate that makes sense
at this point.

Man-in-Black - Pure evil; the island's Lucifer which if he is ever
named may be the name they give him. Lucifer means 'bearer of light'.
He is imprisoned on the island since he is actually dead. MIB is still
looking for his replacement also. Locke is not it since Locke is dead
and never accepted it. However, MIB wants to kill all the candidates
for Jacob's replacement and then use Desmond as his. (Desmond is not
dead just in a safe place in the well that fake Locke threw him in.) I
think MIB wants Desmond to take on both roles again so that he can
leave the island.

The candidates have to accept their new positions. This is key since
otherwise they could be forced at any time to replace either Jacob or
MIB. This is also shown in last night's episode where fake mother asks
Jacob if he will be the protector but MIB also accepts his role (albeit
through some manipulation) when he and fake mother are in the tunnel
with the wheel.

The alternate time line is a world in which since the island was sunk
due to the nuclear bomb at the end of last season no replacements were
needed and thus Jacob has not interfered in the lives of the Losties.

This may all be completely crap after the first five minutes of next
week's episode but that is the theory that I have for now.

being the new protector.

Here is my far fetched reasoning why.

Jack Sheperd - "23"

Season finale - May 23

Psalm 23 begins - The Lord is my "Sheperd"

Psalm 23 - Its the psalm of David (Jacks alternate time line son)

Jacks dad = Christian.

Sorry I have ruined Lost for everyone.

I mean, really what other explanation was there other than Jacob throwing his random brother that was raised by some random woman into a random cave of unexplained light? That certainly cleared things up for me, and I don't know how I didn't guess that from the beginning.

There were a lot of subtle answers to a lot of island mythology. You have to do a little digging to find some gems in this episode.

I think you are going to be sorely disappointed if you think they are going to spell out the meaning of it all in a 42 minute episode. Sure, they are going to answer some of the big questions but I think they will leave plenty of room for interpretation.
