Was 5 years old on April 3, 1974 in Louisville. At my aunt and uncle's house on Eastern Parkway, 2 blocks West of Bardstown Road...aka Ground Zero.
I was just old enough to think it was cool to sit with candlelight in the living room (center of the house) while the really rumbley storm went by. After it ended we walked out to see that the tree 30 feet from the house was gone. Ripped out of the ground kind of gone.

Worst: Ice storm of 2009. Didn't have power for four days but still had to go to work, where there was hot water and electricity. It was like a homeless shelter. Employees and their families were coming to the office to cook and take "half showers" with sink water and soap.

When that storm happened I had power at 5Am when I left for work. All day people told me they didn't have power. I didn't want to go home so I went to the movies by the mall. Got home around 5 (lived in Cardinal Valley) and had no power. Called my friend to see if he had power. As soon as I hit 'send' my power clicked back on. Went out to buy some candles just in case. My building was the only one on Cambridge Drive to have power.

Went to the corner of Versailles and Alexandria. Shell, Speedway, and Rite Aid had no power. The Walgreens did. Nothing but my building and Walgreens for miles had power.

In 1999 Hurricane Dennis hit eastern NC dropping 15 inches of rain, 2 weeks later Hurricane Floyd dropped another 19 inches, 4 weeks later Hurricane Irene dropped another 6 inches, so a total of 40 inches of rain in 6 weeks, resulting in a 500 year flood.

Got to meet this ugly bastard. F3, May 28 1996.

Was gonna post the same thing. I lived in Pioneer Village at the time, we had very light damage to our house but just 5 houses down was completely funked up.

Hurricane Fran, 1996. Had just moved to NC a few months earlier. Even though I live 100 miles inland, the eye was still formed as it went through our town with 70-75mph sustained winds, gusts up to 100. Damage was incredible, huge trees down, much of the Triangle was without power for a week, flooding. I've been in some bad ice storms in KY (1994) and NC (2003) but this was worse.

2009 Ice Storm. Out of electricity for 10 days. Had to haul water to 200 head of cattle all day every day until power came back on. Then had to spend the biggest part of the next year cutting trees off and repairing fence.
