If somehow he lands stokes and gets portal guys that fit the system I believe he will have a successful year.. needs a big also with good passing skills… needs to get multiple 3 point threats
Totally agree with all of that 100% because I've thought the exact same things for a few weeks now. Guys that fit Pope's system of cutting & shooting can score points for sure. There's a video on you tube of Kelvin Sampson talking about how hard it was to defend Pope's offense when he was at BYU. There were no all americans on those 2 BYU teams that played Houston (one year in the WAC & one year in the Big 12) but there were players that knew the offense, knew how to screen, cut, pass & shoot. If he can somehow get better athletes that can do all of that then we might have a pretty good team. Putting in a better defensive system will also help because you can't out score everyone. If somehow he lands stokes and gets portal guys that fit the system I believe he will have a successful year.. needs a big also with good passing skills… needs to get multiple 3 point threats
It will help him, but at the end of the day it’s all about winning and right now he has no replacement for his best player. The only player that’s made us a tournament team and basically made the team go. We have no replacement for that guy that’s messed up and to be honest that’s pretty sad.If somehow he lands stokes and gets portal guys that fit the system I believe he will have a successful year.. needs a big also with good passing skills… needs to get multiple 3 point threats
Problem is that you can’t win just playing offense and that’s why Pope‘s teams at BYU and Utah Valley State or wherever he was they only won. His teams won when they scored like 85+ points and to win in the SEC you’ve got to be able to win in the 60s and in the 90s 100 that means you have to be able to defend so yeah I don’t care about how difficult his offense is if he’s not defending then that’s the thing is I feel like watching his team is the first year we let a lot of guys just lay the ball and take the ball to the goal guys at BYU. They were just they’d watch just let them score play kind of token defense cause they will get the ball and then they will wanna run and get out and shoot take lots of shots. They wanna play with a high pace, but you’ve got to be able to coach that you’ve gotta have a team that plays defense as well as it attacksTotally agree with all of that 100% because I've thought the exact same things for a few weeks now. Totally agree but you have to score to win, I want players that can score & play defense. Pitino always signed players that could score & then he taught them how to defend also. It has baffled me as to why Pope doesn't teach defense like Pitino taught him? Year 1 we had offense & crappy defense. Year 2 we had better defense & crappy offense, minus the PG. Year 3 i hope we have better offense & defense.Problem is that you can’t win just playing offense and that’s why Pope‘s teams at BYU and Utah Valley State or wherever he was they only won. Pope to Pitino personality miles apart too.I could see that logic. However, Pope to Pitino's coaching ability is miles apart lol
Not a chance in hell this will placate the Fellowship of the Miserable.I think if Stokes commits the current noise will quite down this off season and the fan base will become more optimistic. The results then have to be there either way next season or the noise would return and be much louder.
