The only downside is knowing it will only be for a few years. But provided the players didn't absolutely rebel at having a coach that requires them to work hard, I would expect him to take next year's roster and make us a top 5 team. I'm not sure what kind of recruiter he'd be, but I think with the way the SEC plays basketball, he could keep State a top 3 team inconference even with a drop in talent.

I would be worried about bringing in an NBA coach at that age. I dont know if he would recruit well, and it definitely wouldnt be long term

We talkin about practice. Not a game, not a game; practice!

I don't care how good Moultrie and/or our incoming freshmen are. You don't go from a 17-win team to Top 5 just by changing the coach.

I hope I'm missing some sarcasm.

If only we had some sport at Mississippi State where a new coach was signed to compare against... Hmm....

Look at every where he's been. It might not translate to the college level after being in the NBA so long, either b/c the players aren't smart enough or won't respond to him or maybe he just wouldn't have the practice time available like he does in the NBA, but Larry Brown is a good coach.

Plus, our roster would be good for him. You'd see a good bit of improvement from Bost and then the just having somebody require defense and working out would do a lot for defense and rebounding. We'd still have a depth issue, and that's assuming that the freshmen are solid contributors and we don't have mass transfers when somebody tries to discipline the players, but I think Larry Brown would make ahuge difference.Top five may be an exaggeration, butIdon't thinktop ten would be.

It's having a real strength and conditioning program.
It's requiring people to play D (looking at you Ravern).
It's You have your most talented offensive player in decent shape (good shape is probably not realistic).
It's havinga season where your three most talentedplayers don't miss a significant number of games.

The main thing is, we'll have a very good point guard, a very good offensive post player, and (I hope) a very good athletic post player. The rest of the team may leave something to be desired, but as long as you don't have huge defensive liabilities on the court, basketball isn't really a sport where yourweakest link brings down the team. A goodcoachcan take three good players like that and puttogether a very good team as long as the rest of the team is solid, and I think the rest of our team will be decent. If SMith and/or Hood really do turn out to be blue chippers, I think we could have a pretty decent rotation.

Stans is that bad and next year's roster is that good. If you bring in a real coach who will actually strength and condition in the offseason, instill some sort of fundamentals, get his players behind him, and combinethat with next year's roster and top 5 is possible. Would it happen. Probably not, but it's possible. That's how sad our coaching staff is.Now go ahead and make fun of what I saidsps basketball whizzes.
