Would anyone attend an NIT game in Starkville?

I damn sure won't. Byrne would be wise to pass on the opportunity for our basketball team to embarrass us further this season. Better to let them die a unseen death in Idaho or somewhere.

Nobody expects anyone else to make a long trip to an NIT site. Not the point of this thread.

I would attend if i was within an hour or maybe two of Starkville. Not driving from Vicksburg to an NIT game though.

If the opponent, my schedule, and ticket availability were right, I'd go. If not, I'd watch on TV.

However, there is no way in hell we should pass it up. We aren't in a position to think we are too good for anything. Plus, what about the Seniors on the team? Would you want to keep them from playing a couple extra games at the Hump (or elsewhere) simply because you are embarrassed they didn't make the NCAAT. All criticisms of performance set aside, I have no reason to believe the players aren't busting their asses and playing as hard as they can - they deserve a post-season game or two if they are good enough to get there.

...I used to hate 34 and his antics. I defended Stansbury on this board all the time. But over time, I realized that Coach is pretty much right on about Rick. I mean, all his arguing over Pelphrey and Brady is silly, and is done mainly to get a rise out of the board. That said, the phrase basketball purgatory fits us perfectly. We are too good to make a change but not good enough to do anything worth a damn.

Besides, this is Mississippi State. Our trademark is allowing successful coaches to stay around long enough to destroy what they built. It's what we do.

We were all disappointed we didn't get in the big dance, but hosting all the early round games was incredibly fun. And everyone was tuned in when we went to MSG. So is the NIT bit of a downer? Well yeah. But once everyone gets back down to reality if that situation is given to us, you know damn well that the Hump will be packed and rocking. And yes, I'm assuming we'll get a number 1 seed in the NIT should we be left out of the big dance.

From my point of view, I shelled out $1000 for four season tickets this year and have been treated to fantastically frustrating basketball all year. I sure as **** ain't about to pay any more for the priviledge of watching it in the NIT. If any of you that go to games only when you get a free ticket want to go to an NIT game then knock yourself out.

You can have your pity party from the comforts of home. Just don't suggest Byrne should pass up on the NIT in Starkville just because you don't want to watch it in person. That's a big slap in the face to the players (especially Seniors) who put in a lot of hard work throughout the season. It wouldn't be a preferred post season, but it's better than nothing.

I'd love to see an NIT banner up there. And I would buy a ticket to see the dogs play anytime and anywhere I can afford to go. The Hump would be great, assuming we miss out on NCAA and get an NIT invite.

I guess i'll be lonely there. Maybe I'll bring the grandkids and the ycan play with Stan's kids.

Poor attempt at grandkid humor except that I am 100% certain they would drop whatever they migh have planned that night to come to a game with me to see the dogs play, which makes them better MSU fans than some here.

As long as I'm pissing folks off,let me say seriously that right now, I'd rather watch the BB team than the Baseball team play. Probably would rather do that next year, too. At the moment all I get is hopeful statements that three years out we'll be playing college baseball at MSU.

There is no way in hell the Hump will be "packed and rocking" for an NIT game. We only had freaking 8000 or so at the Alabama game where Jarvis and Barry broke the records at State. Our fans have not shown up in droves all year and they damn sure ain't against some mid major from Timbuktu. Write it in stone, if we host the NIT actual attendance will be no more than 6000. I have been to every game this year and just scratched my head at why our fans are not there.

One day Mullen will lead us to the national championship game, Hanmudog will be unable to attend, and Byrne will have to reject the invitation.

Because you see I would be pissed that Mullen would have us playing for a national title and would stage a one man protest because I don't like national titles. Basically the same situation as having to shell out even more money to watch an NITteam that has slept walked through games this season. I see the similarity now. Sorry I did not see that earlier.

The fact that you are staging a one man protest over the NIT doesn't mean that we can't find 8-10K who might want to attend an NIT game. Here is a hint: our entire fanbase does not share your opinion, nor my opinion, nor any other single person's opinion. I'll be pissed if we are in the NIT. I will think we underachieved. But it would be stupid to turn down an invite and ability to host because everybody may not see it the way I do.

Some of you guys on here are talking as if we are Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State, UCLA, etc...

If we dont make the NCAA, then we should be happy with hosting the NIT and come out and support our bulldogs as we always do. </p>

I did not say turn down the invite completely. I just said that I would not blame Byrne for turning down a chance to host based on how cruddy our crowds have been this season. I could easily see us losing money on an NIT game. Again, I have been to every home game this year and the crowds have been dead and generally between 7000-8000K for SEC games. I would be shocked if we drew more than 6000 for an NIT game unless it is against North Carolina or someone like that.

Wow! Two banners! I can already see the coke cups next year. Football and BAseball = nada, but South Padre3rd place whiners, West div whiners and NIT Whiners for BB Team!

You know what poor spellers MSU Grads are. Trying to live up to "Missisipio" on the BB Banner

I'd happily go to the Liberty Bowl next year if they play no better than that.

I'd buy tickets to go to a super regional if the bb team decides to play college level ball this year or next, too.

You buy your tickets, go to the game and decide it was a good year, or you whine until the next disappointment comes along, and then whine about it.

Going deep into a tournament, any tournament is fun I don't care who you are. Like kissing your sister I suppose (I don't have a sister). Fun...just don't want a bunch of folks to see you doing it.

OK so maybe its more like banging a cousin than kissing a sister. But I wouldn't know about that either I swear.
