We didn't give up many sacks at all last year. I don't get all the hate for our tackles.

Based off of what? Siddoway was hurt nearly all of last year and clausell was still a sophomore. You forget how sherrod looked his sophomore year against om? How about you watch a couple games before you say something stupid like that.

we have GOT to give clausell some help on clowney. clausell has largely overachieved considering my expectations werent high, but clowney might erupt through russell's sternum like the cheast worm thingy on ALIEN. i have convinced myself that this is 100% possible in the perfect storm that is clausell, clowney, and russell:

Exactly. We have up like the 2nd or 3rd fewest sacks in the sec last year. People will complain about everything.

My God, you act like we had the worst tackles in the league last year.

Considering our LT was just a sophomore and our RT was playing his first SEC season on a hurt leg, I'd say they did pretty well. We were one of the best teams in the SEC in pass protection last year with a QB who isn't very mobile and is constantly accused of "holding the ball too long" by our fans. Try to step back and think, and don't be so damn dramatic. Barring injury, we should be serviceable at worst at tackle, just like last year.

very true, but some of it will be russell standing like he has lead weights on his ankles. last year, either his pocket awareness isnt where it needed to be or he has balls of solid steel to stand in the pocket THAT long. im guessing its the former, so hopefully that has been addressed this offseason.

Constant images of Russell either completing it or throwing it away?

Or constant images of him breaking all our passing records?

We were the best we've ever been at pocket protection under Mullen, due to the maturation of the line and Russell's pocket awareness.

Big difference between a RS So and a true So. My expectation for linemen is that outside of the freaks, it takes a year just to get in physical shape just to be minimally competent. Then it takes another year to get the playbook and technique down and to add some more strength. I expect us to know what we have in their third year in the program. If they haven't made the jump between their second and third year, I don't think there is usually going to be that much more improvement available.

That said, I don't get the Clausell hate. No, he is no Sherrod and it'd be nice to have blue chip talent at LT. Not having blue chip talent at one of the most important spots on the team is always going to limit you in the SEC, but it's not like Clausell is some major weakness. He's going to face as much talent at DE as anybody in the country, and he's going to be serviceable against almost all of them. The only LTs that will do noticeably better are going to be in the league soon.
