the NCAA had the stance then on cheating that it apparently does now?

My interpretation of their stance now is "Money is too big to get anyone in too much trouble, so we are basically looking the other way."

Black Helicopter alert.....

My personal belief and there is no evidence to back it up because it's just me pulling it out of my tail what I think but The SWC was a Texas conference that had Arkansas in it. Many of their rivals were in the big 8. It all centered around Texas and the OK rival. I think Texas and OK really wanted a new conference that the two could be together. The rivalry with in the conference were big and you could not take all the big eight or all the SWC teams to form this new conference. However the SWC had several schools they did not want. So once Arkansas left that gave Texas and OK the opportunity to form that big conference to rival the SEC. Texas, Texas A&m. Baylor and Tech were the main schools that Texas wanted to keep together. All the others were not rivals and were just the other guys. Oklahoma wanted all the big eight schools and Texas only wanted the four. So what you ended up with was the Big 12. All these schools in the SWC rolling over each other was part of the Black Helicopter plan that Texas and OK cooked up to get what they wanted. However as we all saw after the Big 12 was form was Texas getting too big for their trousers and Texas A&M got tired of it and told them where they could stick it. Again just my opinion.
