Beating #1 is just too special. As much as I'd love to knock off Ole Miss in that situation, Florida would be even better.

Besides, if UM was Atlanta-bound, they'd have at least a decent ranking on them anyway. Dashing UM's dreams would be as sweet as knocking off #1 and keeping the streak alive.
Given the quality of the average Ole Miss fan versus the average Florida fan, I'll take whooping #1 Florida . (Note: I said "average", there are always outliers...)
Living here in Georgia (ATL metro), I am very tired, come SEC Championship time, of all the "FLA IS #1!!!" "GATOR BAIT!!!" morons that clearly didn't even go JUCO, much less the University of Florida.

If you think about it from the completely opposite direction, you are only left with choosing Ole Miss.
If Ole Miss were to beat either A) an undefeated #1 Florida team or B) MSU preventing us going to the SEC championship game, B would feel by far much much worse to an MSU fan. And those feelings would be permanent.
I've forgotten about the Ole Miss victory over Florida last year. Big news for a week or two, but everyone (nationally) forgets quickly. Basically, nobody cares long term. Upsets over #1 teams happen. Preventing your arch-rival from going to a championship game will hurt the people that you want to hurt for a much longer period of time. They would never forget it.

If we do get to that point this year, I think you should be forced to start a redshirt freshman walk on private school QB in honor of David Morris.
I hate them as much as anybody, but us going 1-11 with our only win over them would make me happy for about 30 minutes after the game, and then very depressed that we went 1-11. Nothing is successful about 1-11

on a lot of things. Which is why it's so irritating that he is so completely clueless when it comes to basketball. I think the main things we disagree on are Jackie Sherrill and Rick Stansbury. He likes the .500 coach who got us on probation twice. I like the coach that wins championships.
You are correct about Stans. Coach is correct about Sherrill. And, regarding this thread, beating Ole Miss is essential for building our program. In the state of MS as well as the movie Highlander, "there can be only one." I want to win them all, but Ole Miss is the biggest game of the year for both teams (whether fans admit it or not).

3. Its harder to win in football- 2/3 of your schedule is conference(which means its hard as hell in the SEC), basketball only about 55% is conference. Basketball also allows you to schedule more easy games due to the sport having 3 times as many teams.

part of it is Jackie's fault- BUT- the NCAA's witch hunt definitely compounded the problem and made it much worse than it should have been. They made it nearly impossible to recruit by 2002.
Cowpower needs to quit blaming Jackie for Crooms- that one goes on LT. The worst coaching search in SEC history. LT found a way to make the hiring of Ray Goff by Georgia seem not so bad.

I would have to say point #1 is completely wrong. In Stansbury's coaching tenure, no way is the SEC the 5th best conference.

I loved Jackie as much as anyone during our heyday, but what I blame him for is the last 3 years and his stubborness that caused it. When he left, we were in worse shape than when he came. Jackie took over a team with a good bit of talent. That 1990 team was not bad. Hell, we nearly beat #2 Auburn, and we did beat a really good Southern team. Felker just was not a good on-field coach - he could recruit his *** off. He was the one who inherited a disaster left behind by Emory. Jackie took Felker's players and went to a bowl game immediately. The seniors on that team were freshmen for Tech & 10. I'd say Felker recruited pretty well. Jackie deserves all the credit in the world for building us into a viable program in the late 90's. Why can't he be assigned the blame for destroying it?
Jackie rolled the dice with the Jucos and lost. Besides, Sherrill invites NCAA investigations and it's a miracle they didn't find more when they gave us the anal probe. We'd already been on probation once under him, plus he had a history of bending the rules, so they had reason to keep a sharp eye on him.
