Pope says UK isnt looking to add anyone. He is confident in Lowe. So does that mean Tipton is full of crap ?

He said, “I’m not sure we’re shopping a lot,” not that we aren’t looking. Where there’s smoke there’s fire. We’ve already reached out to two international point guards. This feels like a CYA move from Pope to temper expectations in case the red tape makes it difficult to finalize. My understanding is simple, if it’s possible, it’s happening. I have no clue if it’s possible this late or not but I’m definitely hoping it is.

The way he phrased that makes it sound like they are at least entertaining the possibility, but they don't want to create any unnecessary distractions right now.

Exactly what I was saying. No team turmoil and no fan overreactions if it doesn’t happen.

This board told me it wasn't a big deal to lose him. Freshmen don't really matter.
I couldn't agree with that point of view. It seems pretty clear that building your long-term core through recruiting high school kids is still absolutely critical to constructing perennial title chasing teams.

get me a juco billy richmond
I don't suppose you meant it this way (maybe you did?) - but I've thought since last season that Billy Richmond has serious PG potential. I doubt he's going to be used that way, and it would take development, but I think as a big PG (a la' Jalen Rose) he could be a problem for opponents on both ends of the floor. He's a willing passer, got a decent handle and can get in the paint. That's a pretty good start.

Would you know the names of the two possible international PGs UK might have reached out to. I know it's just a rumor situation, but I'd like to try to look at some video of them.

Hard to get a top notch guard to come in and play 10-15 minutes. Hilarious to me that people don't seem to understand that... but this is Rafters.
Ding ding ding.

The reason people do not understand it is many of us think from the perspective of the team and not the player. The player has to like what is in it for them as a complete package as compared to other schools.

Billy has no pg potential and has never been considered as such. Geez.

I don't agree in regard to "no potential." I've watched him a good bit both in high school and college and thought he could have been developed in that direction with his skill set and willingness to pass. But it was a hypothetical thought exercise. I never suggested UK try to go get him to play PG.

Billy Richmond would not hurt any team in the country, if you have seen him play much, he all ways plays hard as hell with effort and athleticism.

Okay but he isn't what we need.

We need a PG and/or a guy who can make shots from deep, and Billy can't do either of those things.

Not saying he is a bad player, but he is the exact opposite of what we need.

BYU just added a center from the G-League. Abdullah Ahmed.

18 mins per game, 4.7 pts, 5.8 rebs, 3 blks, 23% from the free throw line

Surely, Pope isn't this naive to believe Lowe won't get reinjured at some point this season. It's almost inevitable.

So, what are some reasons why we wouldn't add someone else.

1. JMI, nothing else needs to be said.
2. Pope continues to struggle recruiting.
3. Nobody better than Aberdeen is available.
4. No scholarships available. Not sure if Horn or Tow count towards the 15 schollys?
5. No money available. We spent $22 million. Maybe the donors have closed their wallets for the season?
6. The transfer cuts into somebody else's PT and Pope is afraid of disrupting team chemistry.
7. Mitch is against it for whatever reason because in his mind it 'feels wrong.'

But if Pope is just being stubborn and doesn't add a PG and Lowe goes down, then he deserves to feel the heat. We don't accept mediocre results at UK. Another 6th place finish in the regular season, a second round exit in the SECT and a S16 run in the NCAAT won't cut it for his second season. Win or get out!

He also said he is confident Lowe will be ok the rest of the season and that if something does happen he is confident in Aberdeen or Johnson running the point.

Should something happen to Lowe to affect his availability, Pope is confident there are enough pieces elsewhere on the roster to keep the Wildcats from drowning, specifically mentioning Denzel Aberdeen and Jasper Johnson as more than capable replacements.

I would be surprised based upon that statement if we add someone. Thats just me though.

Not trolling. The staff is considering bringing in a portal PG so clearly they recognize that the PG play hasn't been up to snuff. You should recognize that too
Are you really that dense or do you just enjoy acting like it to troll? Our point guard is injured to the point that he needs surgery, but he's putting it off so he can help the team as much as possible. His play has been fine when he's healthy. But he could go down any minute so yes, they are considering bringing in a backup in the event that happens. Acaden didn't want to compete for a starting role so he took his ball and went home. I don't want someone like that here anyway. This is all really simple stuff but you let your dislike of Pope blind you to basic logic.

to br fair jqs only here bc he couldnt get drafted
Is Lewis on a draft board? He is a talent and dishes the rock, but I bet he needs one or two more years and needs to improve his outside shooting before he is a first round prospect. All that said, he an Moreno were the two most ready of the four commits Pope landed.

Hawthorne and Jasper may be SEC ready next year. Moreno and Lewis can play in that mix now.

Here's hoping. We need a backup.
Something A Lewis was not willing to evidently be. He gets 27 minutes a game on what appears to be a pretty good Nova team. You would have to have told Lowe no for him to have anything close to that for these Cats. He made a “me” decision. Looks like it is going well, but I don’t see Nova contending.
