Wow! Just blowned away by the commentary about the "quality" win.

Yes, I'm glad we won, but that still does not solve the fact that the team is poorly coached. The excuse, "we are young this year" doesn't float. I watched a young Florida team beat a pretty good NC State team today. Next excuse, "Florida has better talent", I thought Stans was a real good recruiter. Stop making excuses for him, he runs players off or they transfer because he has not sold kids on what it takes to be a starter in this league when he is recruiting them. He tells thems what they want to hear just to get them to campus, and when they get see the big pic they leave. That by itself has really hurt our program over the last couple of years. We have no leadership right now, because we let Ben leave when we should have been telling him that he was going to be the go to guy.

Somebody typed that we have won the SEC tourneys with Stans. I thought we have only won one in his 11 years, if I'm wrong could someone refresh my memory.

<17> Ben Hansbrough. He's not his older brother. The "go to guy"? Are you <17>ing kidding me? Let him have fun warming the bench up there in Notre Dame...

A decade's worth of consistency was brought to the forefront this past year for MSU's 11th-year head basketball coach, who became the all-time winningest basketball coach in school history, surpassing Richard Williams' mark of 191. With a 10-year coaching record of 208-115 (.644) at the Bulldog helm, Stansbury has guided eight State squads (5 NCAA & 3 NIT) to postseason tournament appearances and seven clubs to 20-plus wins campaigns. Prior to Stansbury taking over MState's head coaching duties in 1998, the Bulldogs had totalled seven postseason tournament berths and eclipsed the 20-win mark just seven times in the school's 86 previous years of basketball competition.

MSU has have averaged 22 wins per season the last five years (2004-08), including winning an outright SEC overall championship in 2004, along with back-to-back SEC West crowns in the 2003-2004 and 2007-2008 seasons, and an SEC Tournament title in 2002.

but look at how many appearances we have had in the last 20 years. Our program has been lifted out of the SEC basement- and yes Ricky is a big part of that.

But i'm no longer looking at what State basketball was in 1975, because it doesnt matter anymore. We have been in the postseason what- 13 of the last 20 years?
Its time to elevate this program again. We are starting to regress it appears. We cant let that happen.

Florida was young last year, this year they are a little more experienced. To say you are not lettting the young excuse fly this year makes you sound like an idiot. Anybody with half a brain knew that this would be a rebuilding year with a freshman PG running th eteam and Randy Stewart as one of our more experienced players

Florida is 12-2 after beating the powerhouses of Warner, Rollins College, Toledo, Missouri-KC, Florida A&M, UCF, Florida Gulf Coast, Stetson, and Georgia Southern. I don't know much about NC State, but that's generally a pretty solid win. Our losses this year have come against, WSU, San Diego, Texas Tech, Cincy, and Charlotte. Of those 5 teams, Charlotte is the only one that is not at least decent this year. Don't try to tell me that San Diego is not a good team. They beat UConn last year, basically the same team that has been ranked 2nd in the country this year, and won the WCC tournament, and return all five starters from last year's team. Realistically, the only game of those that we should have expected to win is Charlotte. All the others were toss-ups at best. We probably should have beat Tech, WSU, and San Diego, but we either couldn't put those teams away when we had the chance or choked down the stretch. Those are classic signs of young teams. Argue it all you want, but the fact is we are young this year. Now, should we be young this year? No, but it is what it is and we have to deal with it now.

Don't get me wrong, there are legitimate beefs with Stansbury (namely transfers and offense), but he has done pretty well here. If you're upset about our record so far you have unrealistic expectations for this team. Everyone knew this was a rebuilding year and that this team would take some lumps early in the season. They seem to be improving after the last two games and I expect them to continue to improve.

is that we shouldnt be this young. We should have Hansbro in the line-up, and Ravern should have logged more minutes per game than he did last year to get ready for this season. Those are the things that frustrate me to death.

Yes, we have gone to only 7 post season appearances, prior to his tenure, but during the 50's and much of the 60's MSU had great teams and declined invitations.
********,yes, I agree, but still the FACTS...

Stan's gets a pass with me, regardless... without him, IMO we don't make it to the FINAL 4.

My biggest concern with him, is the loss of players...I'm not sure how much he is screening personalities...during the recruiting process...still I'll keep him.

Hansborough left because his old man insisted he leave. He told Rick one week before he was happy and looking forward to this season. Now, if you think Rick ran him off, you are full of schit. I asked Tammy Hansborough myself and she said that the whole Ben ordeal was her ex-husband thinking Ben will be a star somewhere like Tyler is and also to get Ben to leave Starkville where his mom, Tammy was living. Get your facts straight before slanting every post you make to be a Stansbury bashing. Ben might have helped some at the two guard and with his defense but he'll never be a great point guard and you'll see that at Notre Dame.

regardless of the reasons, the constant attrition in our basketball program is hurting it. Hopefully, it will cease. But until it does, its valid for people to be concerned

Given that we had to endure Polk's obvious distractions since about 1992 and Mac's simple lack of coaching ability and then the melt down of the football team after 2000, basketball gave me something to hang onto for the most part. I was always a strong Stans supporter until the Georgia game last spring in the SEC Tourney. That game was about as bad a coached game as is possible. Hell, an Ethiopian aviator would have designed a better game plan that what Stans did. Everyone knew we should have run Georgia into the hardwood but no we walked the damn ball down every time.

Stans needs to be a little less interested in the idea of being the coach at MSU and concentrate more on being the coach at MSU. I am not interested in how you look on the side lines, I am more interested in how you coach on the sidelines. His substitutions at times appears to be more directed toward the crowd knowing that you are "coaching" instead what would be best at that particular moment and at other times it appears substitutions were predetermined before the game started regardless of the situation.

MSU should be in the NCAA 3 out of 5 years and if not we need to find someone who can get us to that point. I want Stans to get it done but if he can't then we need to move on.

Hang on here, so you are saying that a 20 year old guy has no say in the matter? Did Ben have no say in whether he stayed or left? Odd. I guess he really is the little ***** that so many here have said. For him to have no say in the matter and do whatever daddy tells him to do...well, thats a ***** right there.

Or maybe, just maybe Ben wasnt all that happy? Seeing as how he and Jamont didnt even look at each other on the court at times last season, much less actually talk...perhaps he didnt like his role on the team and how Stans treated everyone?

Even if Papa Hans suggested to Ben that he leave, it is still Ben's decision. Ben chose to leave, his dad didnt do that. And Stans was the one that was unable to talk Ben into staying. It really shouldnt have been all that tough, seeing as how you say that Ben himself wanted to stay. What sort of coach in unable to convince a guy that wants to stay, to stay? How does someone F that up?

Ben is 3 times the basketball player that Randy is, from bb IQ to ability to make shots to leadership and free throws. Yeah whatever is right he probably wouldn't be our best option from outside. Clueless
