Maybe some pushback against Petrino? Sunbelt commish says they offered cash to make them more enticing.

How is that possible with as many bowls as there are now? What happened to bowls having trouble finding enough 6-6 teams to fill all the slots?

Didn't we stay home with 7 wins a few years ago? But I agree with your point ... an 8-4 team should be in a bowl. Leave a 6-6 team at home.

Back in 97, yes. That was before bowl numbers and tie ins got crazy.

If 1997 was today, we probably would've gone to the Music City or Liberty Bowl.

Oh, and we could have easily won the west that year. We had Arkansas and Ole Miss left and controlled our own destiny. Auburn won the west and we beat them 20-0 in their house.

The problem with WKU is they don't draw. They are everybody's second favorite team behind UK, UofL and UT. Their Administration admitted that poor attendance cost them a bid in 2011, but nothing has changed. The Petrino hire had a reverse affect with many boosters turning back tickets.

Hate it for them but Western is the second favorite among many of the university's own students. On any given day you see more UK and UofL clothing on campus than WKU gear.

UTSA is still transitional. The only way they could have gotten a bid this season was if they were the only available team.

2nd straight year for a Sun Belt team

Last year, when MTSU was still in the Sun Belt, they sat at home at 8-4 as well.

When you are in a crappy conference with only 2 bowl tie ins and lack a really good story or big fan base you stay at home.

There are 4 new bowls next year, which will give 6 more teams the chance to go to a bowl (not 8, since the national championship will be played between teams who have already won playoff bowls).

Their attendance is pretty rough, even by SunBelt standards. Students used to tailgate right up until kickoff when the police would make everybody either go to the game or just leave (most just went back to their houses and kept partying). Plus, there's the whole "raised as a UK fan, but go to Western" thing that's been mentioned before.
Maybe Big Red will randomly show up at the Little Caesar's Bowl just to confuse everybody.
