apparently the spirit is threatening a poster on bdj with a lawsuit because he copied and pasted something from the spirit but the kicker is that they have paul's "biscuits" copied and pasted on the spirit

citing a federal civil copyright statute and threatening criminal prosecution unless a bdj poster tenders his spirit user name and password.

Complete laughable ******** from the retard fanbase contingent of both conference retard programs.

An Ole Miss fan who has been lurking on Bulldawg Junction has been posting Paul's Biscuits on the Spirit lately, so Sevendust from Bulldawg junction returned the favor by posting some of Yancy's Tidbits from the recent commitments and their big weekend they had.

Yancy got PISSED and started a thread telling whoever posted his tidbits to fess up and get banned or he will file a lawsuit where he can sue that person for copyright infringements up to $25,000. Yancy is such a DOUCHE and hypocrite.

That guy has got to be the biggest tool ever. I'd rather read 10000000 JR posts every day for the rest of my life than to read one of his.

would post premium material from one board onto another board, but I see you've answered that question. That's a pretty ****** thing to do. Of course, since Yancy apparently allowed it to happen, he's just as big of a douche.

He wakes up every day and bravely works hard as a journalist to provide for his family, despite his daily, crippling struggles with the English language and basic grammar. I, for one, find it inspirational and a lesson for all of us.

even copyright-able? I mean, I'm fairly certain there is a process you have to go through to get something copyrighted.

In other words, just because people pay for your words - doesn't make them copyrighted.

you can rewrite the info in your own words, but you can't copy/paste. That said, good luck with a lawsuit without proving damages. I think.

In fact, someone doesn't even have to pay you for them, and you don't even have to specifically claim a copyright. It's automatically copyrighted unless youspecifically put it in the public domain. I actually thinkthe postI'm writing right now is copyrighted.

What does copyright protect?
Copyright, a form of intellectual property law, protects original works of authorship including literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works, such as poetry, novels, movies, songs, computer software, and architecture. Copyright does not protect facts, ideas, systems, or methods of operation, although it may protect the way these things are expressed. See Circular 1, Copyright Basics, section "What Works Are Protected."
Maybe I'm confusing copyrights with patents, but I thought you had to get things copyrighted ahead of time, andthecopyrights are issued dates/numbers ect. Maybe Rivals/Scout network has the copyright on the premium content posted on its network(?). Even if thats the case, then the lawsuit would have to be brought by Rival's lawyers, not some random poster on the the Spirit.

I just think it's funny because the options are banishmen ora lawsuit. Sounds like the goal is just banishment, and the "lawsuit" is just a way to get him to cave w/ his IP address.

You can register a copyright if you want to, but it's not necessary. Seriously, once you write something down, it is automatically copyrighted unless you specifically put it in the public domain. You are right that some random poster on the Spirit couldn't file a suit. Only Yancy (or Rivals) could file a suit.

Here's all you need to know Wikipedia link

All independent creations are copyrighted automatically however you can file for and receive additional copyright protection from the fed. government. However reporting facts (relative term) does not make something an independent creation. If 7dust would just report the substance of the tidbits then there would be absolutely no issue whatsoever. Its the copy and paste of exact statements and the manner in which Yancy so eloquently drafts those tidbits that makes it potentially a copyright issue albeit a very tenuous one at best.

More likely, however, Yancy has a claim for intentional interference with business relationship or some type of claim for theft/conversion of proprietary information. Hard claim to prove on. All of it is ********. The only ones that get rich out of this **** are the lawyers.

1st of all, what the hell kind of name is Yancy for a man or anybody? 2nd, any sane grown man would come up with a nickname or middle name to use rather than Yancy. I remember hearing "Yancy from Oxford" calling Jeff Wienburger(Memphis) back in the early-mids 90s to talk about recruiting news on a 1-900 line. He sounded like half-a-*** back then on the radio and name did not help.
