WTF? Booo Roy Williams.

Presbyterian fan defends his actions

A Presbyterian College fan who was ejected from Saturday's game at North Carolina said he was not intoxicated and was sitting in the UNC section because his friends had invited him to sit there.

Brian King, of Concord, was ejected after Carolina coach Roy Williams pointed to him. Security officers escorted him out of his seat. The moment was captured on camera by WRAL.

King, a 1996 Presbyterian graduate, said Monday that he didn't blame Williams for being upset, but that he was concerned about how he was portrayed after the game.

"I was not a drunken idiot who happened to be where he wasn't supposed to be," King said.

Steve Kirshner, associate athletics director at UNC, said Sunday that security personnel found the man intoxicated and sitting in the wrong seat. Kirschner, reached again Monday, said, "Our security people said he was non-responsive to their requests and they thought he was intoxicated."

King was sitting in a section in the lower level, not far behind the UNC bench.

Kirschner said the fan was removed because of how he responded when arena personnel arrived. Kirschner said a uniformed policeman went to see him first and then the security officers appeared. The security officers determined he had been drinking, Kirschner said.

"It had zero to do with what he said and zero to do with Roy Williams," Kirschner said.

King said he bought two tickets from StubHub for the game. He said he moved in the second half to sit with buddies from elementary school who had seats in the lower level behind the UNC bench. King said he was invited to sit there and that his friends had extra tickets available. He said he could have shown the security officers the tickets if they had asked.

King said the Smith Center was quiet in the second half, except for him rooting for his team. He said he had some beers before the game but didn't do or say anything inappropriate. When UNC's Deon Thompson was at the foul line, King said he yelled, "Miss it, Deon!"

"I didn't say anything but, 'Miss it, Deon!' That is the truth," King said.

King said he is a huge basketball fan who "grew up going to the Duke games. I love Cameron Indoor Stadium.

"I really love basketball. That's all I was, an enthusiastic fan."

King said he was surprised when Williams turned to him.

"He told me to shut up. I said, 'Who, me?'" King said.

"And he said, 'Yeah, I'm talking to you.'

"And I said, 'Go Blue Hose!' and pointed to my shirt."

Williams motioned to someone at the Smith Center and security guards emerged to escort King out.

King said he was "really embarrassed" about what happened but didn't want his comments to come across as anger towards Williams.

"I'm cool with what happened," he said, noting that his father coached football and he understands how passionate fans can be.

Instead, he wanted to address how he was portrayed in the aftermath.

"I was not intoxicated at all," he said.

Maybe if the guy had been yelling profanity or making threats to the players, then I would say his removal was completely warranted.

But in a game that was won by 39 points, this just makes Roy look like a douche.

looks like he says "get that guy outta here"

one more edit: that guys definitely doesn't look intoxicated and non-responsive. they say that is why they kick him out. hell the cops weren't with him for ten damn seconds prior to pushing him out of the row. the guy is clearly talking to them and answering their questions.

Bama's students sit in the end zone and the seats run close down to the baseline. I guess Shaw had had enough of their mouths, so at least two got the boot. One begged for it.

In that interview at the end of the vid he says something like "i don't think anyone should be yelling negative things at our players."

Seriously Roy? You have been coaching basketball for how long? and this is like a new issue you just came across? ....******

i also think they should say they kicked him out because they wanted too, regardless of the seat he was in and whether or not he was intoxicated. it is their house and they can do what they want but don't be girls about it and lie about the guy. just a couple of seconds of looking at the guy and he doesn't look even close to being drunk.

i bet Roy doesn't care one bit about what his own fans yell at the opposing team.

It's taken a while, but we're starting to see Roy for what he really is, which is a jerk.

Coach K is a jerk too, but he doesn't try to hide it.

There's all kind of fun things the Cameron Crazies could do with this, when UNC plays Dook:

- All the students dressing up in Prebsbyterian gear.
-Giving that Prebsbyterian fan as close a seat to Roy Williams as possible.
-Re-enact that scene before the game, like when the Stanford Band had tribute to the Potato Famine when they played Notre Dame.

I emailed that to a Carolina fan and this is the response I got.

1. He didn't ask for the guy to be removed from the building but wanted security to find out what ticket the guy was holding. The police officers decided to take him out of the building.

2. The guy was sitting in CAROLINA seats - not general public, not visiting team, but one of the very expensive season ticket holder sections.

3. Roy HATES it when season ticket holders either a) don't show or b) give their tix to opposing fans. He sees it as disloyad and is on a personal mission to change that. So he wanted to know what seat the guy had a ticket for. Who knows what he might have done with that information - but it's a reasonable question. Did the guy have the ticket for the seat he was using?... See More

4. The guy was drunk. Drunk people are removed from the Smith Center most of the time.

5. We have 2 national titles since 2005. Roy can say pretty much what he wants when he wants and to whom he wants.

And yep, if Coach K did the same thing at Dook I'd not only support him, I'd applaud. Rude fans are bad. Period.

This has been the talk on the local radio all day. Supposedly the Duke students are trying to bring the guy to the game at Cameron to sit behind the bench. And yes, Roy Williams is a jackass. And the UNC fans here think he can do no wrong. They are the basketball equivalent of Alabama football fans. Just terrible people in general.

than someone acting like a jerk then simply putting themselves above being questioned about it. I have never seen that side of Roy Williams.

because he is stacking up national championships while we sit around and talk about being an 8 seed. To the victors go the spoils and in that area of the country where basketball is a religion, Roy is the god of this era. He will win 2-4 more national championships in the next 10 years and if he likes will kick your *** out of his gym when he feels like it. I never knew we had so many Puke sympathizers.
