You can call it sour grapes, but it really does make you wonder if Samford is using illegal bats. I have no clue how anyone can hit 25 HRs, regardless of how small the park is, with the current bats. Hell, Florida's MLB level lineup doesn't have anyone who has hit more than 12. And I don't think anyone would say that FL isn't arguably the most talented team in the country. That begs the question how the hell is Samford generating so much power compared to everyone else.

I watched a little of their championship game last week and their bats made that distinct "ping" that the old bats had. Their opponent's (Miami?) bats didn't, so it definitely wasn't the mic for that game. I thought it was very strange, but didn't think much of it because that would seem like a completely obvious giveaway that they had juiced up bats. There's no way somebody would be that obvious about using illegal bats and not have anyone call them out on it. At least I hope not...

until the field is set for the CWS. I have no clue if they are using illegal bats but I have watched a ton of college baseball since the bat change and I have never seen balls jump off the bat like they did yesterday against us.

Granted, we threw them some HR balls that were way up in the zone and perfect for a decent hitter to rip over the fence.

I am interested to watch the game tonight and see how they bat. I still think that Stratton just had some awful misses yesterday and was off his game.

My problem is that when we bat and a pitcher misses, we rarely if ever rip it yard.

As long as the stickers are not harmed or if they're replaced, then how could you know the difference unless it was tested?

A buddy of mine plays in a big time softball league and he says that composite bats have been banned but most of the teams order new or different stickers for the bats and play with them.

Now the difference between an aluminum bat and composite is huge and sound 100% different. It is very easy to tell if someone is using a composite bat.

the metal rawlings that SC uses have a ping sound not so much for the composite. The composites sound changes the more you use them.

Samford's bats had that distinct "ping" of the old bats, while ours had the current dead bat "clank." Hell, I texted my buddies during the game wondering if Samford was using illegal bats because of it. I probably haven't seen 5 balls jump all year the way I saw their balls jump yesterday. I won't say they for sure was, but it's enough to make me go "hmmmm....." If they show up with those bats that go "ping" tomorrow, Cohen needs to raise hell.

It is also very well known that many Junior College guys use steroids because they have a chip on their shoulder and there is little testing in JUCO ball. <div>

I was talking with a buddy of mine today who is much more knowledgeable than I am when it comes to this stuff... he was saying (may be obvious, but it makes sense) that all bats are not created equally, or more specifically: all bat companies do not create bats equally.

I have no idea if the performance is any different, but that probably explains the "ping" sounds of the non-Eastons vs the "Thwack" sounds of the Eastons.

They all have different acoustics and performance, but can't exceed certain thresholds. It's definitely hard not to associate a ping with a better performing bat - it just sounds hotter.

I quit baseball at 16, so I never really studied difference is bats that much. Do some bats offer larger sweet spots for sacrificed distance? And are there some with smaller sweet spots, but once you hit it, it's a rocket? I'm showing extreme ignorance here, but I really don't know. I could see there being a preference depending on what your strengths are as a hitter, but have no clue if bat technology allows for that. If not, let's just get the hottest bat there is, we need all the help we can get...

BBCOR has stadardized the bats. They sound different and they have different weight distrubution but one isnot more lively than the other. Samford uses Demarini which has and had always had (before BBCOR) a dead sound.</p>

Saw it first hand playing JUCO ball and I know some MC and OG players juiced when I played high school ball. If anyone flames at you for sayin they might be on roids then they've never been on a baseball team past the age of 17.

If this was true, all golf drivers would be the same due to USGA standards but they are not. Callaway in golf like Easton in baseball used to be the gold standard. Now Taylor Made has surpassed Callaway in driver technology. See how many pros now use Taylor Made. You always have regs and standards set by some organization but 1 company always takes the lead in pushing the technology to take advantage of specs.
