Saw that earlier

It sucks, but definitely understandable. Supposedly the trees on parkway were a big issue for them as well as people getting to the venue

I saw a pic of the start line and it looked to be coated in half an inch of ice.

Yeah I just read the finish line was completely covered in ice

And that a chunk of volunteers and medical personnel have already backed out.

There are people flipping out about them canceling it. I hate it got canceled too but dang, have some common sense about it. They were only looking out for the safety of the runners and volunteers.

Well...

You've got thousands of people who've literally been scheduling their lives around training for this race for the better part of a year. It's a huge commitment time wise, physically and financially to prepare for a marathon. Not to mention if you're married with young children your spouse has made sacrifices to help you along. Everything in their life has been geared to hit tomorrow's date.

And its not like you can just reschedule it next week or the runners can just find a different race.

The director understood all that when making the decision. Conditions up there must be brutal. I hate it for everyone involved. What a tough deal...

I was kinda glad it got cancelled. I'd committed to running a relay leg and had no desire to stand around for 2-3 hours in 20 degree weather, 15 mph winds, just to run 6.5 miles.

I had still planned to drive up in the morning simply because I'd committed to the relay team. But I wouldn't have even thought twice about skipping out on the half. The full - that's a different story.

But anyone who's been running for a long time understands this stuff happens. You get sick during the taper, get injured 3 weeks out, or have terrible weather - that's all part of it. Nothing ever goes quite as planned.
