Speaking of War Games...Blood & Guts - I originally suspected it would be Death Riders vs. United Empire for that. Then PAC's death threw a wrench in that. Now Ospreay and Moxley are going to be at the New Japan show the day before B&G. I read it's a 20 hour flight from Japan to Florida where B&G is taking place.

So I think it's safe to say that isn't going to be the B&G matchup now, and it likely wasn't what was originally planned either. ANd I still have zero clue what those matches are even going to be three weeks out. AEW just simply has to learn how to balance a damn schedule. If you're going to have a PPV damn near every month then time to cut virtually all of the TV specials.

My take on the Caster thing:

1. What he said wasn’t that bad, especially for a wrestler in character for a wrestling company.

2. His real problem wasn’t what he said. It was pissing in WWE’s blood money cheerios. Can’t be doing that.

3. Caster isn’t the best company man and probably is bow black balled from wrestling on national TV, but if I was running an indie, I’d bring him in, hand him a mic and say “go out there and go viral” and see what happened. I would probably also run the BS disclaimer Smoky Mountain used for New Jack promos to both cover my a— and make it seem more dangerous and edgy.

Every tv wrestling company* is in bed with Saudi/Middle East now. Either by choice (WWE and TNA) or got inherited into it (AEW with Skydance takeover of WBD). Can't really be going at the blood money like that, they've executed people for their speech. Like damn Max use some common sense.

*I don't count whatever janky crap MLW and NWA are on.

Is anyone surprised Tiffany won the MITB? Seriously!
And we all know what will happen, Tiffy will cash is on Chelsea!
The only questions are when, and how?
Could it be when Chelsea and Liv battle it out.
I think a very unique way would be for Tiffy and Chelsea to be in a tag match, maybe even tag title match, Tiffy to get temporarily knocked out of the ring, just long enough for a Chelsea to get demolished (like a couple of Nia fat-*** splashes), Chelsea gets pinned as Tiffy rushes in too late to break the pin. She reaches over for the briefcase and cashes in right then.

Tiffy could also fail to cash in - I really like Chelsea as champ and she could play the I knew you were going to turn but was one step ahead angle.

Seems awfully presumptuous to seemingly think he is a lock for WWE. Do TNA contracts come with a WWE right of first refusal if they get an AEW offer or something?

Something I repeated years ago AEW should do but got tired of beating a dead horse over it. No one gives a damn about the ROH/Dark matches AEW runs except the nerdiest of wrestling nerds.

It's Wednesday, you know what that means. Dynamite and Collision from Cleveland.

Hoping we get an upset in one of the qualifier matches, but with the midcard titles on the line I don’t see much chance in it happening with those matches. But with the other three Alexander, Cage, and Ace lose all the time so I have a hard time believing it’s happening in those three as well.

Actually more than just a cool move. It was awesome and something I’ve never seen before.

I find it funny he’s called Mini Vikingo still though. He might be taller now than Vikingo lol.

Very small sample size obviously but still not a good look for wrestling as a whole.

That is really surprising. I figured WWE would be strong with the younger crowd.

I think mma has saturated their market with basically pay per views every week. I think they are on a definite downward spiral.

UFC killed themselves by not paying their fighters. No stars anymore because it ain’t worth it.

Also I don’t think there is quite as much overlap between sports and wrestling fandoms as there used to be or as much as we think it is. Based on my ~16 year tenure working in sports as either a student or a full-time employee. I can count on two hands the #of people I met thru that who watched wrestling.

I think for many of them they have a hard time accepting fake fighting. But it’s also the type of audience that would more likely be receptive to wrestling than other major fandoms due to the nature of wrestling still being a physical performance at the end of the day.

Many of the people I used to work with in sports turn their nose up at wrestling and think it’s trashy. I’ve occasionally shown them clips that have gone viral and asked them what it makes them think of wrestling and the answers are never good even when it’s just magnificent feats of athleticism. Danhausen stuff in WWE has also “polled” especially poorly amongst them.

WWE unhappy that some employees don’t want to travel to a war zone that’s getting bombed seemingly on a daily or near daily basis.

  • Copeland announced he is retiring next year
  • Christian broke like three ribs and got a collapsed lung 5 minutes into the ladder match but still finished out the match
  • What I assume was a Dragunov teaser video aired
  • Jamie Hayter injured yet again but TK is hoping she is back within a couple weeks
  • Brian Cage had his best AEW match in ages
Not much else particularly newsworthy from Dynamite/Collision last night other than PPV match announcements. The time on all these qualifier matches could have been much better spent doing stuff to have real build to the PPV. Instead all we got was extremely predictable results that largely accomplished nothing beyond having decent wrestling. We could have accomplished the same thing by just announcing who the participants in the PPV match would be then doing literally anything else with that time. I don't mind a wrestling match for the simple purpose of having a match but it needs to be high quality, these matches were largely C to B efforts.

They need a hot angle coming out of Wrestle Dream. Though I will admit Dragunov debuting has me very excited. Too many PPVs and TV specials (and tribute shows but that's an uncontrollable temporary problem) packed in such a short time frame is killing the ability to properly build anything for any of these shows as long as they continue to jampack them with a bunch of matches.

If they want a PPV every month then they need to kill virtually all these TV specials. Maybe once a quarter at the absolute most. If they want a TV special seemingly every month then they need to get rid of some PPVs.

If they really want to keep all of them, then the TV specials need to be built around one or two big matches. Other than maybe international Grand Slams due to infrequency of visiting those places. Like take Blood & Guts. Off the top of you head can you name a single other match that has happened at a B&G episode outside of B&G? Exactly, you probably can't. Or cut the # of matches on PPVs so more programs can last beyond just a few weeks of build. Almost every single PPV we can come away saying at least one of the matches could have just been a TV match. It's ok to just put some stuff on TV instead. How many people are really going to complain if a PPV had only 8 matches instead of 10+?

AEW can just eliminate like 10% of what they are doing now and it would make the product considerably better with some small sacrifices. Focus more on quality instead of quantity to more effectively utilize the tv time.

The segment with Nick Wayne and Jericho was tremendous. Yes I said a segment involving Jericho was tremendous. I love Nick Wayne's over the top cocky/smug character work. It almost feels like a parody or satire of a douchebag you'd see in a typical young adult tv series or movie.

I really hope Nick wins on Saturday. This seems to be the first time in AEW that he has shown any real personality, so it'd be good for him to win the feud.
