Question about Derek Lee's slide into second on that double play ball.... I was watching at a bar and didn't have sound. Why was that not ruled interference? What's the rule on that?

Unless you're 100 years old, the Cubs sucked when you started rooting for them. You brought this on yourself. In all likelihood part of the reason most people decide to become Cubs fans is in part because of them being "loveable losers." So when they continue to lose, I don't understand where the "Why us?' thinking comes from. Why you? Because you chose this ****.

As far as you thinking people shouldn't comment unless they're Cubs fans because it's cruel: Using your threat as an example, if the Saints are in the playoffs and heavily favored but choke it away, anyone who is a football will likely discuss it, and Saints fans should understand that.

But I do know the rule. You must be able to touch the base. If you slide outside to the point that you can not touch the base, it is ruled interference and both runners are out.

That's the general rule as I understand it.

I know you said you didn't see it but he basically slid straight into the base, but as he was sliding his right hand went up in the air to help his balance/slide and the ball hit his right hand when the throw to first base was attempted. I think that the runner has to show intent to interfere to be called out, otherwise it's just a hit runner and the ball is in play.

I agree with your assessment, but you and I also know that if, by some .0000000000001% miracle, the runner that was safe at first had scored the winning run, you would be stomping up and down about MLB is rigged for the Cubs to win, that the umpire was Tim Donaghy, that Vegas had the fix in on that game, and any other conspiracy you could come up with.

Yeah, in that case it would have to be VERY blatant. They're probably not going to call that in the postseason especially. If they had called interference on that, Lou Piniella probably would have had another classic meltdown, and rightfully so.

The only way I could see them calling interference would be if Lee had jumped in front of the ball or something stupid like that. Usually interference is called at second base only in the situation I talked about above, and I actually did see that called in the Indians/Marlins World Series in 1997.
