My guess would be a bad connection outside the house as well.

On the 1 TV at a time on SlingTV, yeah that does suck, but again, you are not going to get the same experience as DirecTV. Which is why it is much cheaper. But it's most definitely worth the money and the quality is pretty dang good if you're Internet is fast. Haven't missed a single UK game either and that extra $150+ I'm saving is going right into my savings account every month :)

Just to cut off any ******** from the start, I bought the Arris SB6183 this morning, and will have it available for him to hook up and use when he tries to tell me it's my modem. If I can help it those ******** aren't leaving my house without giving me a real answer, and solution.

*They also called me a few minutes ago, and told me, in broken English, that they sent out a series of fixes and to check and see if it is working properly now. Two issues with that one: (1) why didn't you try all of your "fixes" the first couple of times I called with this problem? (2) Nice try getting me to check it during the middle of the day when no one in my neighborhood is home, which is when I typically do get close to my purchased speed.

^Kiss my ***, you're sending a tech out.

FWIW to Lexington folks: Just had a TWC technician at my house also. His words... "If you're on 50mb now, on April 16th, your speed will be 300mb." I asked him what charge for that will be, "no charge, and they're not advertising it. We're just telling people as we do our service calls..."

We'll see I guess, but that will go a long way to keeping me as a customer, unfortunately.

I know you're not in Lex, Chase, but maybe you all will be in the same group for speed increases.

Yeah TWC in Lexington is upping all their speed which is good because I'll be able to knock about $20 of my bill and still get faster speeds.

The odd thing about Chase, is that he was getting 50mbps when he was hardwired, which almost makes me believe it isnt the wire.

I was at one point, but then last night I tested it hard wired and was getting 8-12mbps.
Maybe it is line. The tech will test all parts of the line. Maybe a small knick in it, or the modem.

I may not sell my soul for 300Mbps, but I'd sell someone else's for sure.

Just heard from TWC on twitter that it is Lexington, Louisville, Bowling Green and Evansville. Apparently not Owensboro though. x infinity

Its not the router. Its the ISP. Cable ISP providers use what is referred to as a shared subnet. Meaning everyone in your neighborhood shares the same subnet. Try running a speedtest in the afternoon, and compare it to 2am when the kiddos are in bed. You will notice a drastic improvement. Consumer grade routers should be left to just doing that....routing. The ISP speed is a measurement of the connection between your LAN and the ISP/WAN. The internal speed of most routers nowadays is 1Gbps internally to the LAN. Meaning all copper ports have the capability of switching 1Gbps on each port simultaneously. This has nothing to do with ISP performance. If you need to improve your "WiFi" network, use decent grade wireless access points. I can provide tips on that if needed.

Chase....that map is showing Owensboro with outages....

The center of that red dot is very close to where I live; however, it has been doing this for several months. I never bitched because I could still stream 1080p with no problems. But now that I purchased a 4K TV, I'm determined to get what I'm paying.

Actually I just zoomed in and I'm just outside the yellow.

Good call, thought it could be an outage.

Its not going to be downgraded from 50mbps to 8 during peak, at least what I have seen.

Also, It very well could be the modem, a lot of them are ****. I think he just bought a DOCSIS 3 modem, so he can see then.

Its still either outage, wire, or modem, so havent gotten really far...

I just bought the Arris SB 6183, but I am currently using the 6141, which is DOCSIS 3 and should be all I need. I really have no clue what the real issue is, but I don't want them pointing to my equipment and saying I'm the problem, so now I have a new router, and we can plug in the new modem, so they'll know for sure it's not me.

The router is fine, he cant point to that or he is clueless. The factors that generally differentiate routers are VPN Tunnels, Firewall features, VLANs supported...those type feature which don't have a damn thing to do with speed from the ISP. Them snotty nosed kids clogging the subnet are primarily responsible for lagging speeds. Not saying you dont have an issue from the pole to your house. A DOCSIS 3 modem and a decent router...and the rest falls squarely on their shoulders. They just want you to rent their all-in-one device and charge you like 10.00 a month for it. DSL service is typically superior service to cable since you are not using a shared subnet. Speeds are not grossly over-stated either. They do however, have distance limitations. Those in rural areas generally are too far out.

Well, the tech was at my house for around 3 hours, and finally after checking outside and a million different things with my stuff, came to the conclusion that it is something on their end. He is pretty dumbfounded though as you can hardwire it and get 60mbps, then immediately retest it and get 25. Switched out cables, switched out routers, switched out modems, ran a billion speed tests, and of course kept happening.

Although the issue didn't get fixed tonight, I couldn't be more pleased with the tech. He's genuinely interested in getting it fixed. The plan is for him to discuss it with his boss, and send out a maintenance tech.

He did say they checked the nodes, and they shouldn't be a problem in my area, as they aren't even to 50% capacity.

Anyway, I'm supposed to hear back from him by Friday.

I know you're all on pins and needles.

Meh, a few of us tech nerds are. I Don't believe you are getting throttled during peak hours though.

One time, I had a pin hole in the wire from my house to poll that caused this. Not sure how guy found it, as you can do line least.

A problem that I had in the past that might explain some of this was that when our installer came, the moron didn't install the connectors correctly on the coax. The wire wasn't long enough to keep a constant connection, so every time the cable would shift, it would change the connection. So, a slight breeze in my house might determine whether I was getting 40 down vs. 5 down. Sounds like your installer did a pretty good job for you, but if the problem doesn't go away you might suggest that he check the connectors for the wire.

Probably nothing to do with your house, but when the techs came out to my house, they were incredulous as to where my 'hub' was in the house. They said usually it's in the garage or a downstairs point. Nope. The main line went to a wall between my sons' rooms and there was just a mess of splitters in there. We had to move the modem up to the boy's room. He recommended hiring someone (not them) to rewire at some point if we didn't want trouble like we'd been having. Moving the modem to where the main line was changed everything.

Thats where it should be, cuts out a lot of line noise and interference.

He said he checked all the connectors and replaced several that appeared to be older or could possibly have been a tiny bit loose. Didn't seem to make a difference though.

He also checked for interference, and said that my house was probably the cleanest he's ever seen, that there was no interference whatsoever.

Update: Spoke to the tech today. He said his boss wants him to replace the line to my house so it is new. I'm not sure when that's supposed to happen.

Apparently I'm just f*cked. They replaced the line to my house today and checked the neighborhood box that it's coming from, and nothing changed.

Tech today said he's now found out it's a utilization issue because of their new cable boxes being connected to the Internet. He said I should just call and ask for a credit because it takes forever to fix and there's no way to know when it will happen.

Such ********.
