We are picked dead last because of a horrific defense last year and unproven qb and wr group. I personally believe we upgraded defense and QB this year. I don't know about wr but I'm going to be optimistic. If we establish the run game and utilize the TE, I believe we will have a respectable outside game.

Defense will be improved.

Every year "experts" are dead wrong with their preseason standings. I honestly believe a monkey could do better outside the top 10 in the nation. I firmly believe we will be an improved team and will win a few games being a strong underdog.

You would think it impossible for a team with 3 of the 5 best linemen to finish in the bottom portion of the league
You still have to stop the other team.

Let me know when Big 12 media does actual research on all the teams in the conference and not just Texas and Oklahoma.

If you're not a blue blood, then they probably have done very little to no research on you. They don't know anything about the majority of the teams out there.

But is it not the same "experts" giving this great grade for our offensive line? If we give them credence for their assessment of the offensive line, why not for their other assessments. It seems despite thinking we have a strong offensive line, they think we are garbage in enough other areas to be dead last.

I say prove it on the field and this assessment means nothing. I'll believe it when I see it.

In some cases, yes it is the same experts. But it is much different analysis evaluating one player for a specific position versus the entire team versus the schedule and conference. Most of these lists are compiled based on taking certain results of the skilled players and just guessing how it will impact the team and that just isn't a complete evaluation. Hopefully you have been around long enough to realize how wrong these preseason rankings are going both ways for many teams throughout the years.

Yes, prove it on the field and until that time, WVU fans need to be a little smarter and keep expectations real but not to the point that is ridiculous.

How can media pick a team dead last then praise the players on the team that are key to success?

I know these talking heads and their predictions are a crap shoot. Might as well flip a coin. But if these experts are only ever half right, that means there is a chance WVU finishes dead last AND the offensive line sucks as opposed to the line being good and WVU exceeding the last place prediction.

I think coaching is the problem. We can have great talent on the line, but if the coaches are garbage, the line will be closer to garbage. See what Mullen and Stew did with offenses that RR and Holgorsen also (mostly) had. RR in '07 had 39.6 ppg while Stew/Mullen in '08 had 24.5 ppg. Stew/Mullen in '10 had 25.1 ppg while Holgorsen in '11 had 37.6 ppg. I have zero confidence in this HC and his staff based upon the last 4 years.
