Follow the money. At the present time the SEC has the most lucrative TV contract, followed by the BIG10, the Big12, PAC, and the ACC. Now that the SEC has added OU and Texas their next TV contract will be without doubt the richest in history. Thats a problem for other conferences. Remember, the ACC has already been raided when a FOUNDING member Maryland left for more money to join the BIG. Don't think for one minute that didn't send shock waves through that conference. The ACC can lose a Maryland but they will not survive if they lose their marquee teams. So when the next tv contract is negotiated if the ACC doesn't expand to improve their product they face the danger of losing Clemson and Florida State to either the BIG or SEC. Think about it: Would you rather stay in the ACC and make 23 mil a year or move to the BIG or SEC where you could earn 75 Mil a year? It doesn't pay for the ACC to add WVU at this time that is true but they cant stay pat either. On the next go round I think you go after Notre Dame and WVU. WVU fills the void left by Maryland and creates interest with all of the rivalry games. And Notre Dame is well Notre Dame. The ACC may not really want WVU but ESPN calls the shots because they have the money. Follow the money.
