Track Prepped for Big 12 Outdoor Championships

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 14, 2015) – The West Virginia University track and field team travels to Ames, Iowa, for the 2015 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championship from May 15-17 at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

The Mountaineers were idle last weekend in preparation for the conference championship event.

“We feel we have the opportunity to bring home six to eight All-Big 12 performers this weekend,” said coach Sean Cleary. “Our biggest goal for the spring was to get eight qualified for the NCAA Championships. This weekend needs to go well for that goal to be met.”

The three-day event will kick off on Friday at noon, ET, with the women’s hammer throw. The meet concludes on Sunday evening with the team championship presentations scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

Multiple Big 12 schools currently rank in the most recent USTFCCCA National Rankings including No. 5 Texas, No. 10 Texas Tech, No. 11 Kansas State, No. 12 Baylor, No. 18 Oklahoma State and No. 22 Kansas.

“Every time we lineup against Big 12 teams on the line, we expect to bring our finest performances,” Cleary said. “This weekend will provide us the chance to better ourselves and compete at the highest level that we are prepared for.”

This marks the first time Iowa State will serve as host of the outdoor championship. The Texas women have claimed two of the last three Big 12 Outdoor Championships.

A live stream link to the action on Friday and Saturday can be found at WVUsports.com, while Sunday’s competition will be televised on tape delay by FOX Regional Sports Networks which will be announced at a later date.
