Hard to imagine anything said in this thread about Furfari to be construed as hate. It seems that when you disagree with your good friend it is a respectful difference of opinion and when other disagree with him it is hate. IMO, it doesn't get any more mean-spirited and bitter than the hate filled articles that Furfari attaches his name too. He has lost all credibility with WVU's fan base and alumni, and his conduct over the years has been shameful.

Mickey doesn't have WVU or the student athletes best interest at heart. He looks out for himself and tried (but failed) to defend the old boys network within the athletic department. That network was very corrupt and one can only imagine the quid pro quo that Furfari solicited for his services over the years.

I still remember his article about the athletic department's operating losses a few years ago. He conveniently forgot to mention the Big East exit fees and ignored the future Big 12 expected returns which WVU is now enjoying. It was sheer deception and falsehood, and thus the comment about the Furfari School of Athletic Finances

His disrespectfulness to our new coaches, his demeaning comments about our new conference, the fabricated articles, the lies, etc., etc. has resulted in him now being viewed as nothing more than an embarrassment to the University and the State.

I would never say that Mickey Furfari does not have WVU's best interests at heart. Never. ....And I say that as someone who wishes that Mickey would have quit writing about 10 years ago.

He may be misinformed and make less than sound assessments of things. But that is not because he doesn't have WVU's best interests at heart. As a matter of fact it is because he does have WVU's best interests at heart that he writes what he does. ... He is just behind the times, doesn't see things clearly, and should have hung up his journalism hat about a decade ago.

But I would never question his loyalty to WVU. Never. Probably the only bigger WVU homer I have ever been acquainted with was Yup-yup Man ... and I'm not trying to be funny.

Mickey is now just an old man who lives in a very small world. Maybe he should have lived in a world bigger than WVU sports years ago. But it is what it is and now you should just let him pass his last few years in peace.

As disappointed as I have been with Mickey the last few years I can't really think of any significant consequence of his writings other than people complaining about him.

Got me! Mickey haters should have a field day with that one.

Maybe they will....but the only intention of mine was to make a post that included some mild/tame/lame humor.

Still, I think Mickey has tarnished his legacy by basically endorsing Raese in recent years... ....and you shouldn't make the same mistake by pretending that isn't EXACTLY what he did.....

Got me! Mickey haters should have a field day with that one. I say God bless Mickey, too. The guy is coming up on 92 and still kicking. I wish I could do that at his age. Hell, being above ground is accomplishment enough, but to be in a career that began SEVENTY TWO YEARS ago!
I wish Mickey had stopped writing SEVENTY TWO YEARS ago. Sorry man, your pal isn't the wonderful saint you make him out to be. His vindictive lies, and bashing prove the type of individual he is.

Mickey's #1 apologist certainly has made his presence known in this thread. And it is hard for most folks to admire someone who has a track record of being dishonest and mean-spirited whether they are 22 or 52 or 92. Stating that his heart was in the right place and insinuating that ageism is the root behind the criticism that Furfari receives is just another fabrication. I think that most fans and alumni view the way he conducts himself around certain coaches, players, and WVU officials as inappropriate and demeaning. Most of his articles are negative and filled with untruthful character assassinations, and his credibility as a reporter is long gone. His self-centerness is his focus and not the welfare of the student athletes or the viability of the athletic department or the University as a whole. This makes it easy for him to align himself with people like Raese, Parsons, and Chuck Landon. His actions speak much louder than your words.

They say the bad ones live forever and I am starting to believe that.

It blows my mind how anyone who claims to be a WVU fan could even try to say the move to the Big12 was a "bad" decision. Simpletons will point to the win loss record but WVU won 3 BCS bowl s while bringing in around 7 million in revenue. You want a chance to WIN more games and compete for National Championships? Earning 30-40 million a year in revenue is a perty darn good place to start IMO

There goes your credibility. Mickey can be and is wrong, and I've told him so, but his heart is and always will be with WVU. Yes, Mickey was unhappy with some of his long-time friends being jettisoned under Oliver Luck. But I thought the volleyball, wrestling and baseball changes were good ones. Dana, obviously, has yet to be determined. No one owns Mickey, least of all John Raese, whose check is such a pittance that Raese should be ashamed to have his name attached to it. Mickey writes what he does because it's what he thinks. My point is: Disagree, but don't be disagreeable. I was delighted with Oliver Luck as WVU's athletic director. I'm sorry he's gone, but he saved WVU from the fate of UConn and Cincy, and tripled to quintupled (in time) the athletic department's revenue. God bless Oliver Luck. God less Mickey Furfari.

You're never short on excuses for your friend but the, "Don't take what he says too seriously because he's not paid very much" is fraudulent one. You've repeatedly made that point, other Mickey blowhards (Hank) have as well - it's bogus.

If Mickey doesn't like his pay - he can quit, and don't give me any BS about he can't afford to retire. As you've said, the man has had a steady and reliable income in a good profession for nearly 75 years, which is something most folks in this world never get. If he can't afford to retire comfortably it's because of his own poor financial management and lifestyle, but we all know his pay is just a red herring.

Your "disagree but don't be disagreeable" routine is factitious. That's the exact definition of Mickey at this point, he's just a disagreeable old bastard who wants to complain and doesn't have the faculties to know when he's being exploited.
