MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (October 29, 2018) – West Virginia University redshirt junior linebacker David Long Jr. was named as one of 10 semifinalists for the 34th annual Butkus Award, honoring the nation’s best linebackers, as announced today by the Butkus Foundation.
Long Jr. leads the Mountaineers in tackles (68), solo tackles (45), sacks (4) and tackles for loss (12.5). He is No. 2 in the Big 12 and No. 7 nationally in solo tackles and tackles for loss. He also is No. 4 in the league and No. 33 in total tackles and is No. 7 in the conference in sacks.
Long Jr. is the Big 12 Conference’s lone representative and is accompanied by four players from the SEC, three from the Big Ten and one from the ACC and Conference USA.
