His #3 under "Things we need to do going forward" is all it boils down to. The way we have used our QBs so far is inexcusable. We are not putting them in a position to win. aGAIN, it is like we told Relf this offseason "forget about everything that worked last year, we are going to do something completely different." The weirdest thing, is that Relf is a (very) poor man's Tim Tebow. You would think Mullen would know how to put him in a position to succeed. Mullen was often criticized at Florida for being too predictable with Tebow, he never got cute, he just ran the ball, sprint out passes, quick hitters and the occasional shot downfield. Even with Russell, some of the throws I have seen us ask him to make are some of the toughest in the book.

So far, we have been killed by 2 phases of the game that can almost be 100% attributable to the coaches.
1. Special Teams - whatever we are doing is not working.
2. Offensive playcalling - Dan, I don't give a 17 that your film review and gameplan has exposed huge plays to be made against your opponent. If your QB can't make those plays, just do something that works.

That said, #2 can be fixed relatively easily. As for #1, I am hoping it is not a microcosm of the "softness" of this team. We need to put the 10 meanest, nastiest, hungriest players on the team out there and tell them to hurt people. Zach Smith, you do not qualify. Neither do you Robert Elliot. Side note....I have a feeling losing Shumpert hurt us on special teams.

It's like we're giving Relf a lot of simple passes to throw and saving the hard passes for Russell because he's a better passer. But he's still a redshirt freshman with mediocre receivers. We need to be giving him the simple passes too and just not throw the hard ones all that often (just enough to keep defenses honest). I'd like to see what Russell could do throwingsome swing passes and short crossing routes. One of the reasons the swing passes are getting blown up so much this season is that Relf is throwing behind his receiver too much. Completely ruins the timing of that play when you don't hit the receiver in stride.
