MSMA when the temperature is above 70. Finding it can be hard, but Sruggs in Tupelo carries it. I do my own yard and it looks amazing. Just don’t over spray like I did two summers ago.
Way more educated people than me on this , but Spectacle is the bomb. Expensive but goes a really long way. You only use like .10 oz/1000 or something close.
If you have a Bermuda yard, hit it with roundup as well while it's dormant. That wil wipe out the winter weed garbage.
Well I have a 35g tank sprayer so that would be near about impossible not to kill the penguins at the South Pole. But, thank you!
Just making sure you didn’t have st Augustine with the msma recommendation. It does work great as a post emergent but I don’t think it can used on st Augustine. It’s fine on Bermuda.
country, I will expand my yard if I can control weeds without a service. i only had 2 acres done because of the cost.
note on that. it's been a lot warmer than avg the last few weeks. there's a chance some of the stuff, including crab grass, has germinated. I'm using Dithiopyr this year in January. It is a pre-emerge, but also has some post emerge capability if the weeds are very young. I'm hitting with Dithiopyr for the crab grass and Simazine for mainly lawn burweed (stickers) and other weeds that have already germinated. Come back again the first of March with another round of Simazine. Spot spray Atrazine for a few weeds.
If I killed my crabgrass and nettles, I’d have a dirt field. Bought a house last year and it’s pretty much weeds. No idea where to even start trying to get grass. I do have a pretty decent st Augustine patch on one side.
I have 2.5 acres of bermuda as well and it was costing me $3500/yr to spray, lime and fertilize....got insane...i just do it myself now, and actually do it better....Prodiamine is your answer for easy to use and easy to find....I would do it once in early February, and then again in late April....there are a ton of different things you can use, but that is the best 'on label' you will find for your grass....a lot of the stuff i use is off label, bc i can get it....i am totally against using MSMA as a post bc it burns the crap out of the grass....use Celsius here bc it has some residual effect too...
If you want to start a lawn, i’d go Bermuda, it’s hardy, drought resistant and all you need to do to it is hit it with a hot dose of MSMA three or four times a summer. 13-13-13 is the only fertilizer it needs. Two cons are, it doesn’t grow in the shade and Army worms seem to prefer it.
It really is. I’m the only one on my street that takes care of my yard on my own. These lawn guys make a killing.
I’ve never priced it out but I can’t imagine I’d feel like I get my money worth of times savings. I really don’t spend a lot of time working on my yard. Pre emergent 2 times a year, fertilize a few times and then deal with any weeds that pop up, which is pretty rare. It’s definitely not a daily or even weekly task for me. I think a lot of people pay because it’s seems overwhelming.
