90% chance kid never plays a minute for Michigan. He’s a projected first rounder, why lock up a spot and allocate money to a kid who more than likely won’t even be there? It’s common sense once you know his intentions to not scare other people off and take that money off the table. Time will tell but Pope dodged the bullet here in my opinion.
I don’t think whiffing on great prospects and hoping they go pro is a great strategy to build a great roster.

I still like Coach Pope. I like his enthusiasm, his obvious love for UK, and the fact that I felt we actually won a few games due to his coaching. (Yes, we lost some as well. I still insist we wouldn’t have beat Duke, Gonzaga, etc with Cal).

However, if Pope can’t get it done here, Barnhart needs to go. He shouldn’t make another UK related decision IF Pope doesn’t work.
I love coach Pope and think he could win huge here but if this staff can’t start pulling in better recruits in the portal then we aren’t gonna have the talent to win the big games. We should be crushing the portal this year after the season he had. Word was kids were reaching out all over and studs were lineup up to play here. All I’ve seen is 2 Good to mediocre commitments and and ton of whiffs on top rated guys.

And having no power forwards if he stays in the draft is even worse way to build a roster. As long as we get Folgers we’ll be rocking. We miss on him and have to settle for Reed Bailey then I’m worried about something deeper going on

I get that if he left and went to the NBA that would suck but that’s why you sign a backup just in case. Is it not worrying that of the highest potential guys we have made contact with and absolutely prioritized immediately that we haven’t landed any of them? Final 2 doesn’t Dent, whiff, final 2 for this dude whiff. Dedan Thomas contacted first day whiff, some concerning things to me at least. I don’t understand taking Lowe when we were in contact with more guys who fit our system better on paper that we missed on.

our backup PF would be Bailey or Mgbako.. I hate the idea of either of them starting.

We need to wrap up Alvaro and we be fine. I wanted to stack Yaxel and Alvaro. That would have been golden.
I think if we had gotten them both would start, Garrison would leave imo so its probably Alvaro and Moreno at Center and then Yaxel if returning to college would be 4 with Bailey or Mgbako the backup. I just dont see any way both starting material guys would come and not start. Of course I've been wrong once in my life lol

Acknowledged, but tell me you're not at least a little concerned about what's happening.

Is the S16 good enough for you every year?

If we don't land at least one of these studs, one of them will knock us out of the tournament next year.
Only complete fools or children were worried at that point when the portal had just opened, especially after seeing what Pope had accomplished the year just prior. I'd like to hope you people will learn your lesson to look at past performance and project into the future. But I know you'll be crying that the sky is falling again next season.

I heard today that this week LAST season Mark Pope got his first transfer commit.

This year he's done for all practical purposes.

I kinda think we need to chill and let the man work
