To whoever reads the board for Scott at the Bryan Building- tell him this is a HORRIBLE idea.

Actually, it's pretty stupid if you ask me. Let's play an emotional game against Auburn on the road and then give oursleves 3-4 days to prepare for LSU while they are coming off of a game against Northwestern State? WTF? Is LT in charge of scheduling the Thursday night games?

Hell, playing USM makes more sense than this scheduling feaux paux. (No pun intended) Why don't we just go ahead and move the game to a neutral site like the Independence Bowl while we're at it?

The only thing I'm happy about is that someone included our record on Thursday night games- 6-9, so now maybe we won't have to listen to Jackie Sherrill talk about how well we play on Thurday nights.

And for further reference- the best time to play LSU is during the day as early as possible.

Just making sure I've got that right. We are not to the point as a program where we can try to tell ESPN no, we don't want to play on Thursday. We still need to take advantage of every national television opportunity presented to us.

I don't know if this is how I really feel but look at it like this. The first 2 or 3 games of the season, teams are really behind compared to the end of the season. We play an SEC game before we play LSU. We play against real SEC talent, and we will beat Auburn. Four days rest is not much but it's not as big of a deal when it's the first of the season. Just think, we win our first two games, one of which is against a team that played in or won the championship the year before. After that win, and it being at the beginning of the year, we will have a lot of momentum going into the lsu game. Mix those two factors together and the four days rest is not as big of a deal. Plus what if LSU beats Oregon which will be possible and then we beat LSU after beating Auburn. That will mean we just beat one team from the championship and beat the team that beat the other team in the championship. We would be all over the media. Not likely for all that to happen but it would be amazing.

and will probably sell my tickets to this game. Trying to pull kids out of school to go, having to take extra time off from work, fighting the traffic jam out of Starkville after the game to try and start a late night trek back home, etc.. We just did this against Auburn this past season and I don't want to have to deal with this again this coming season. Now that's just my own personal inconvenience but I also think it is unwise to give LSU an advantage on a short week after we've had to play Auburn while they will have played a nobody. I personally would MUCH rather forgo anything we get publicity wise we get from ESPN and play when it gives us the best chance of winning. I don't mind a Thursday night home game every few years but not EVERY year.

I disagree- we are getting a LOT of good pub lately. I've heard at least once a week how our program is on the rise and how good Dan is doing. We have to do what's best for us- playing LSU on a Thurs. is not in our best interests.

With the new SEC contract, we're going to be on national TV anyway- this isn't 1992.

I would be more OK with this if LSU was playing someone like Alabama the Sat. before. They essentially will have 11 days to prepare for us vs our 4. That's a huge disadvantage for us. Especially since I expect MSU/Auburn to be a pretty emotional game. That's not fair to Dan or our team.

If I was Stricklin, I would have told them I would only do it if they could switch the LSU/Oregon game to the Sat. before.

There is no reason for us to ***** ourselves out on Thursday nights anymore.

I'm generally in favor of us playing Thursday night games. But with only 6 home gamesandcoming off a road game at Auburn the weekend before, this was the time to tell ESPN that we've played more than our share of Thursday games but this year we're just not going to be able to do it.

If I watch long enough, I feel confident my frustration will disappear. Can't say the same about our basketball team.

There are only two every-week national TV slots for the SEC, the CBS game at 2:30 and the ESPN night game on Saturday nights. On weeks where SEC teams play on Thursday night, there are 3 (ESPNU is not national TV in my mind). We only played on national TV twice last year (Auburn, Arkansas). We only were on twice the year before (Florida, Alabama). We haven't had the CBS game in years. National TV is not a common occurrence for us yet that we can simply take lightly. It's still a big deal.

To take it further, the Thursday night game offers more exposure than a Saturday night ESPN game, too. On Saturday night, you're fighting against whatever national game Herbstreit and Musburger are calling on ABC. On Thursday night, you're the only show in town. Everyone watching football is watching you because there isn't any competition. I definitely don't consider taking advantage of early-season, everybody is still trying to get as much football as they can, nationwide eyes glued to the set "whoring ourselves out." I consider it a great opportunity to continue to build our reputation and show people the atmosphere at Davis Wade.

I know that playing on Thursday nights is an inconvenience to us fans, but we need to realize as a fanbase that our personal preferences need to take a backseat to the good of the program. Frankly, playing on Thursday night is worth a lot more to our program than my gorging myself at a Saturday day-long tailgate.

We will be coming off of an at least 8 win season.

I'm not so optomistic that we will beat Auburn- we certainly could, but I don't think it's a given especially on the road and they have Mahlzahn coming back. We could start the year off 1-2 again very easily.

Winning is what will make us more and more attractive. But to do that, we must put ourselves in position to win. Giving ourselves four days to get ready for LSU and giving them 11 is not how we do that. The main reason that we haven't been on CBS or ESPN Sat. night is because we haven't won in the past. It also didn't help us that Florida and Georgia were down this year as well. How is having our worn out team getting skulldrug by LSU's rested team helping with that?

I will say that I do not like Thursday games because they are a pain in the *** to go to as a fan. I have stated as much on this board before. But, that's not my main reason for not liking this. I'm much more upset about the practice time and the fact that we have an emotional game- win or lose- while LSU has a I-AA opponent more than anything. I will probably go to the game regardless of the inconvenience.

Right now, because of the moronic scheduling, I'm expecting us to get beat by at least 21. Or by some Les Miles BS trick play.
