Yes or no? Fire Stansbury and get a new coach?

But don't necessarily base it 100% on whether or not we make the tournament. We need to make the best decision for ourselves, not just piggy back on some decision made by the NCAA Selection Committee, who uses different criteria for a different goal.

and I say that based on a local starkville/columbus doc I call on who is pretty tight with the AD.....he has already quit once in the last 3 years and we begged him to stay....and the Sweet 16 thing is stansbury's goal as well......fall short, and the strong opinion is that he quits.....

I love that picture at the bottom of your page.....it really puts who is "flagship" in perspective....

I still think this season can still be saved, but if it can't then... whatever decision Grasshopper makes... I'll support it... whether I agree with it or not.

generally it's a recurring theme with stans' teams ... transfers/deflections in the offseason, lose games not supposed to lose in the regular season, then all the sudden at the end of the season there's a sense of urgency and the team starts to play well. then, when we fall short, we're told to look at the talent coming inand "this may be stans' best team yet, next year is going to be The Year" ... I'm ready to let Strick go out, do his job, and find someone that can recruit, coach, and effectively run a program.

with Stans we're always going to be "pretty good" to "good", but we'll never be great. I'm ready to give ourselves a chance to be great.

edited to add: I would likely not be in favor of a new coach if I didn't have confidence in our Athletic Dept. and Stricklin to make a great hire. The situation suggests that if we make a hire it would be a good one </p>

I don't care what he does this year. He's that bad. Get his *** outta there. Should have been gone a long time ago.

for getting State to the NCAA tourney. That's my opinion.

If he doesn't get us to the tourney, I think he should be gone.

but I just don't think you can fire Stans if he gets Mississippi State to the tournament. Would I be disappointed if he was fired if we got to the tourney? Probably not because I have been ready for him to go since the fight in Hawaii but as far as expectations for the program - the tournament is what I expect.

1. Make the NCAA tourney.
2. No more incidents with players.
3. Sign Pollard.

How's he doing so far?

but I believe you should never fire a coach at Mississippi State after making the NCAA tournament.

I am stunned by the homers who think that all the Bury crap can or should be forgiven or forgotten if he makes it to the tourney this year.

If by some miracle his players overcome the lack of coaching and win enough games to make it to the tourney, that doesn't change the fact that we have no coaching.

Perhaps that is why we are underdogs on all road games. Our players have to not only overcome the lack of coaching but also beat the opposing team.

Isn't sixteen years long enough to make a sensible determination of a head coach's ability to elevate a program to the desired level?

Is his record what we expected and wanted?

If so, keep him. Ifnot, shouldn't he be replaced?

But how far we make it in the tournament is anyone's guess. My problem with Stans is he looks defeated on the bench. During my years at State (97-02), he stood up for the players on the court and received quite a few technicals. He spend the better part of 40 minutes in the refs ear. Now all I hear is "Dee... Dee". Today however, you see RSS defending himself on some bogus fouls (not all bogus tho) rather than Stans sticking up for him. We all know that can only end badly, and RSS taking plays off is another story. I question Stans passion and would like to see him get tested for Low T. Plenty of people his age have it.

But after the season's over, yes. It's time for a young energetic, defensive minded coach to come in & take control of this situation. His 1st priority should be the S&C program and it's coaches.

Make the NCAA Tourney- keep your job

Dont make the NCAA Tourney- "retire" with pay for the rest of your contract

Regardless of what we think this team should do- that is the standard that was set for 2012

This year is all 17d up but with Sidney leaving, we should be more consistent. We will be able to run our offense and not have to slow every offensive play down. We will have 5 on Defense instead of 4. I love Sidney and I think he is trying his best but the fact is he has some sort of medical condition that is going to prohibit him from ever being in shape enough to compete with real athletes.
Stans HAS to quit recruiting the superstars that need coddling.

This is a season of should haves, but things fell out of place. Stans is 100% MSU as is his family and he is the winningist coach of all time. He is going to HAVE to tweak his recruiting philosophy and do what Shane Powers said.

Unless we just continue to crap the bed (very good possibility)... I don't see Stans gone after this year.

He has a problem keeping his recruits on campus. There are WAY too many transfers from MSU and he misses on these recruits too much.
I understand that everyone will not work out and stay in school, but our attrition rate is crazy high, and this needs to be addressed , to have a stable program.

We've never been in the position in the college basketball world, at least as far as I know, to consider an NCAA tournament run a realistic perennial expectation. We're in the 90% (maybe more) of programs whose season should be considered successful if it makes the tournament, and hopefully gets the right pieces and circumstances to make some noise every four or five years (as this year should be, but probably won't). This is why I personally still have a small shred of desire for Stansbury to stay. He barely meets realistic expectations for a program in our position and makes it frustrating as hell to make it through a season, but if he goes there's a good chance we make a hire that can't even do that, and an almost non-existent chance that we get that million dollar hire that can elevate the program to the next level.

If he doesn't make the tourney with this team, I think it's clear he's just lost it. If he limps in the tourney, I'd hope that he evaluates where he is and decides whether he wants to keep coaching. I think we all realize he's never going to be a world beater as a coach, but he has been a fairly successful coach (chances are good our next coach will be a step down), and I think with a few changes he could get us back to going to the tournament regularly and having teams that if slightly underachieving, are still hard working and likeable.

I really hope he is not ever forced to quit coaching at MSU. Regardless of his limitations, he took the team to the next level and I hope that after a year or two away people start to think as fondly of him as they do of the Kang. That said, if it's between letting the program fall apart or firing him, I think grasshopper would fire him. I really think (hope?) Stansbury will quit before he gets to that point though. If he can't get things turned around this year and next year, I'm just not sure why he'd put himself through the stress when fans no longer appreciate him.

We pay Stansbury top 30 basketball money(top 10%). It is reasonable for us to expect him to finish in the top 68(top 20%) more often than not.

4 out of 5 years with one season being NIT - rest a tourney birth. If we can't do that - time to move on.

Stansbury has received a pass b/c of his past accomplishments but if we don't make it this year - that is 2 tournament births since 2005. And that's with one b/c we won the SEC tournament. We didn't earn it in the reg season.
