(I know some are still scared) put the final nail in the "we shouldn't play southern" coffin. It's going to be a beatdown, as predicted all along.

Rice is CUSA's best team. We open next season with home games against CUSA's 2 worst teams. We ought to lead the country in yards and points after 2 weeks.

I fully expect us to whip their Arce

I just don't want to get back into the routine of playing them.

Which was forced on us, more or less.

I don't either because I remember what poor winners they were. It would never be a rivalry game for us...just a pain in the ***.

I'm fine with playing them until the end of time

(I know some are still scared) put the final nail in the "we shouldn't play southern" coffin. It's going to be a beatdown, as predicted all along.

as long as the game is in the first two weeks of the season and not sandwiched into our SEC schedule. That way there is no way we over look them, because we all know it's going to be their super bowl.

I prefer playing them for just a few years. Let them know they're just another early season CUSA team for us.

Should be a hoot. Send them 4000 tickets and get 3990 of them back with a lengthy missive complaining that they got so few tickets.

Can't believe we agreed to play them in H'burg.

Will the team stay at Beau Rivage in Biloxi and motor up on game day?

I have an idea it was politics that set up the two game series.

Playing in Hattiesburg is a joke. I hope like hell we buy that game out.

This is

the only problem I have w the deal, playing them down there in that ********. However, as things are in today's SEC (MSU) landscape, we are going to be able to whip their *** for a long time. I wouldn't mind playing them every year. People, they're pathetic and regardless of if we get their best shot, we are going to kill them. We just beat their conferences BEST team with a rebuilding year squad 44-7 (could've been 58-7 at least).

Heck, we are playing South AL in Mobile next year. Not much different although I won't mind that as much.

Yea, I wish we weren't playing them down there too...but at the same time, it will be like playing an extra home game, because we will outnumber their fans down there. Plus, we'll have OM at home that year, so a great chance at beating them both in the same season. I'd still rather us buy that game though.

I've got no problem playing down there on a 2-for-1 deal spread out over 6-10 years. Don't like it on a home-and-home though. I think was21 is right that Phil Bryant had a lot to do with those games being scheduled.

To be fair, when we did schedule that game, USM was doing pretty decently. I don't think anyone would've predicted their program would have hit rock bottom this hard. But even then, I was in favor of playing them. Even the home and home. But partly because I'm from Hattiesburg and have some respect for them. I've always wanted to play them more.

While nobody

could've predicted them falling this far, everyone should've seen that the end of the crooms years were over and that we'd no longer be losing to inferior teams. I said from day one of the announcement that we'd beat them and I wasn't scared. Things look to be heading down that path. 17 usm.

You guys have lost your minds disrespecting USM the way you are. USM has a good offensive minded head coach in Todd Monken (OC for OSU the year they won the Big XII and Fiesta Bowl), momentum going into the off season after ending the streak, a big chip on their shoulder coming into Starkville next year, and......most dangerously to us.....NOTHING TO LOSE. The pressure is squarely on State to beat little brother next year. And if you think Southern Miss can't pull it off, you're kidding yourself. Consider this: Southern Miss leads the all time series versus State 14-12-1 (they have been victorious in 12 of the last 16 meetings). So I wouldn't expect USM to lay down in this game.

While Fedora was there, I'm not willing to say they were inferior towards the end of his stint. They were pretty good and could hang with us. I was pretty sure he wouldn't be there by the time we played but I thought they'd still be somewhat competent.

How do you think football works? It doesn't matter how much heart Southern has, they do not have the talent to keep things competitive against us next year. It has to be a perfect storm for them to even keep it close. I'm definitely not someone that agreed with all the heat Mullen got this year as I try to keep things in perspective and not act too quickly, but if State struggles to beat Southern next year, I won't complain if he gets some heat. Definitely if they lose. Losing to them in the state they're in is unacceptable and past history means nothing for the way things are today.

Please tell me you're joking.

Excuse me if I'm not scared of playing a team that's won one game in two years. Not to mention this craptastic performance coming in a league where we just trounced (game was over by mid 2nd quarter) their champion with our rebuilding year squad

Where they were at the highest

of their highs and where I knew Mullen would take us (middle of the pack SEC) we would be favored in most matchups, and I'd expect to win.

Let's face it. They're the red haired stepchild (nothing against red heads or stepchildren) and you're exactly right. If Mullen, his staff, and our fan base don't take the game seriously and are not mentally focused, it could be a shocker. Believe me, they will be playing as hard as they can, will have a chip on the shoulder and will believe they can win the games. Of course we have more talent and if we are focused , we should win as a matter of course.

Won't disagree with that. I just think it would've been more competitive. But despite how good I thought they were, I still felt we would have been the better team.

I personally think Southern Miss will be much, much, much improved next season. In fact, I believe they may even get to 7 wins. I don't disagree that we out talent them, far and away. All I'm saying is don't get too cocky guys, because we are the team that lost to the Maine Bears back in 2004 after all. Stranger things have happened. Southern Miss is going to treat this game like the Super Bowl, and if we enter the game with a bunch of smoke blowed up our butts about how easily we should win, then I won't be surprised if we get whipped.

And yes I know how football works. I actually played organized sports when I was younger unlike a few of the computer geeks on here.

The issue is not, has never been with me, winning or losing. It has always been about helping them to recruit against us.

The MSU program from 2004

and the MSU program from today are 17ing miles apart. To use that game as evidence that we shouldn't be too cocky isn't intelligent. It's like saying Tyson could lose to Spinks because he (Mike) got beat up once in the 4th grade. Also, USM could very possibly win 7 games. They may not. I do know this, though, we just played their champion (a 10 win team by the way) and had them beat 30 mins into the game with a team that was in a rebuilding year. If you're scared of them, that's your deal. However, we are going to beat their ***.

Their 12-2 2011 team would have more team speed than our 2010 9-4 squad. Tracey Lampley (a Wayne County native...whoop whoop) was one of the best all purpose backs I have ever seen playing for a Mississippi school. A Reggie Bush type..... Very very quick and versatile. Our defense was better that year, but it's worth noting that their's shut down a high scoring BCS bound Houston team in the CUSA championship game that was hanging 70 points on just about everyone they played. I liked their quarterback Austin Davis as well. Very intelligent, and tough. He was a gunslinger type, who was perfect for the Fedora spread offense they were running that year. I'd pick our team to win if the two teams were to play, but they would have given our 2010 squad the fight of their lives.

Where the hell are you getting 7 wins especially considering that their conference schedule hasn't been finalized yet? You don't just go from 1 to 7 unless you already have the talent in place. Something they don't have.
