You can blame Sidney, you can blame Stansbury......

but the real culprit of our "struggles", if you can call them that, is Dee Bost. The person who should be the leader of the team and set the tone for the rest of the team has been struggling. His shooting sucks. He gets lazy as hell handling the ball. Then to make up for his poor play, he gets out of control and takes horrendous shots (like the one he caught himself). He damn near lost the game for us last night, before he won it. 3-11 shooting. 6 TO to 5 Assists. Not getting it done.

Our 2 guards give Bost no relief at all. They constantly look to get the ball in Bost's hands as if they cannot dribble against any pressure (maybe they can't). Steele can shoot it but he just spots up and waits for Dee to penetrate and kick it to him. He does not create his own shot at all. I think if Deville gets under control, he and Bost should be the starting back court. Of course, then you turn the offense up a whole other gear and Sidney can't keep up.
If Deville is not ready, I'm not sure Bryant is not a better option overall than Steele just because he is long and can create his own shot. Let's face it,in our offense, or lack thereof, we rely on people creating for their own shots.

Bryant can create his own shot by getting to the paint and throwing a shot at the rim. But if seriously think we could depend on him as a ball handler after last night, then you must really enjoy the NIT.

The success of our team offensively rests on Dee's shoulders. The problem is that the coaching staff doesn't do anything to support him. When you are a point guard in an offense that doesn't run an offense, you are forced to force the ball. You are forced to drive to the basket when you don't need to. He is forced to make everything happen for us with no guidance. Dee does everything he can to help this team. All he needs is some support from his coaching staff.

we suck BAD. We are only 14-3 and ranked. We should be undefeated and in the top 5, as usual.

Neither have proved to me that they are capable of handling the rock at all. However, I do think that Bryant gives us length that Jalen doesn't. I guess it really doesn't matter which one starts because they both play a good bit. The point is, they both need to step up and give more than what they did last night. Also, Hood needs to be more involved in the offense. He seems to be pretty good at creating his shot. I think he is going to be a speacial player for us. He definitely lets the game come to him. Sometimes I wish he would be more assertive and demand the ball. Hard for a freshman to do I guess but he has the game to do it.

that's not getting it done. Our team that doesn't run an offense (hahaha) is in the top 4 in the league in scoring. wow. Hell, if we did run an offense like you guys want (see MS high school academy ball) we'd probably score less.
You are forced to drive to the basket when you don't need to.
You do realize our offense, oh wait, that's right, we don't have an offense, ok lets start over. Our "scoring mode" depends on dribble-drive penetration, right? That's kind of what the PG is supposed to do. Only without turning it over or shooting the ball to yourself.

I agree about Dee. Our "struggles" are in large part due to his struggles. When he snaps out of it, and he will, we will too I think.

However, I do feel that we need to do a much better job of feeding the post. On 1 play last night, Bryant actually waited until the defender got in front of the post man to try to enter the pass. Drove me nuts. The post guy was open for several seconds waiting on the pass while Bryant held the ball looking right at him. I think it is basic basketball to feed the post and then reset and wait for the kick out. Pretty simple stuff that we didn't do very well last night.
However, I am not down on this team. Dee will find his stroke and that will help out a lot. It just bothers me how timid Steele, Bryant, and Hood appear to be when handling the ball. Hood I can understand but the other 2 have to be stronger with ball and help take some of the pressure off of Dee.
