Mark Hudspeth to be "a major part of this staff"

I think this is one of the best moves we can make, especially if Mullen coaches in the NC. Greg Byrne is on top of things. I was not told what his position will be, but it sounded like an assistant head coach or coordinator role.

Your source doesn't seem to be any more credible than anyone else's. Two nights ago, the source was telling you Wilson would be the head coach. That said, I hope he's right this time.

but Hudspeth is to come as OC or Asst. Head Coach or something? This just sounds too weird to be true. Hope you're right though.

I have watched a couple of Hudspeth's games, and I feel like their offensive philosophies would mesh well.

If Byrne engineers this move, HUGE.

Whoever was knocking diehard, he never said Wilson and his updates were the most consistent and believable of any I saw. Good stuff and thanks again diehard.

Even though he is at a much lower school, you think he would actually take a coordinator's job instead of a head coach? not saying he wouldn't but that's an interesting move. Besides knowing he's one hell of a coach where he's at, I don't really know that much about him though. What's his coaching philosophy? Offensive/defensive minded?

it would be easier for him to get in the SEC as an SEC coordinator than a D-II coach.

Hell, if he's the OC and we have 3-4 years of success, causing Mullen to go to greener pastures, I wouldn't be against promoting him.</p>

don't you think this man is good enough to get a head coaching job from where he's at now? I think he is but...who knows, I guess alot of people are too afraid to take that shot unless he gets some D1 exposure right?

to anything in Division I except as an assistant. The jump is just too big. The jump from Div. II to Div. I-AA is proportionally much bigger than the jump from I-AA to I-A. Division II isn't that much of a step up from the top JUCO schools.

I mean I'm familiar with the name, but more likely to be OC or DC? Is he known as a recruiter, or what?
Also, DH4D, is there anything to the Dooley as assistant rumor?

before moving on to Ohio St. I've said all along that a successful I-AA coach can make the jump to I-A (even to the BCS leagues). That jump is not as big as the jump from Div. II to Div. I-AA though.

if all the "we're interviewing Hudspeth" and "we're talking to Ellis Johson" rumors could have legs?

No way that GB would have the huevos to start working out a holy trinity deal before making the HC final, right?

If Mullen has fairly instant success, he might see Mississippi State as a stepping stone for greater opportunities and jump ship. Promoting Hudspeth to HC would be a no-brainer.

I've heard alot about him but, what kind of offense do they run? Mainly passing or running based?

In his first six seasons at UNA, Hudspeth has posted the best record of any previous Lion head coach in their first seven years - leading the Lions to a 66-20 mark, two Gulf South Conference titles and five NCAA Division II playoff appearances, including the Division II Semi-Finals three times.

Over the last five years, UNA has the winningest college football team in the state of Alabama with a 62-13 record.

Last season Hudspeth led UNA to a 10-2 record, marking just the second time in school history that the Lions had won 10 or more games in three straight seasons. The Lions also made their third straight playoff appearance and fourth in the last five seasons, reaching the quarterfinals.

He runs the spread would work great with mullen i think

At this point, there are only two scenarios in which Wilson is not our next coach
1) Negotiations fall through on start date plus duties to be done before said date.
2) someone else changes their mind.
The most likely scenario is Stoops would not let him come when we wanted him here (or some variation of). That fell through and we jumped on Mullen.
