Notre Dame beat a Georgetown team that isn't that impressive to me and now all of the sudden he likes ND more than us because they have 3 Top 50 wins and we only have 1. Well, ND play a Top 50 team every game almost.

The same things will continue to be said about us if we can't win that game. This team needs a big win.

and it rarely comes down to who the committee actually thinks is better. It comes down to top 50 wins a lot of the time.

Granted, he did throw in at the end that he didn't think we were better than the other bubble teams but I seriously doubt he's watched us play too much.

because on College Basketball Final last night he said we still had some work to do, but we are in.

I hear what you are saying though. For all the heat Rick takes for his coaching, his scheduling is much worse.

We just have to win...Losing to AU would bedevastating, and losing to UT would keep us from having a "quality win". We just need to win and take care of business. I think if we win out, and win one in the tourney, we will be in.

Digger said if State had beaten Kentucky we would not even be in the discussion...Translation: "the officiating was so bad in that game I count it as a win for MSU." Hubert Davis and Lunardi agree. All of their attitudes towards us changed after that game. Screw Bilas and his anti SEC bias.

top 50 programs to do a home and home with us, or do you think that we should play most of our preseason games away?

I don't think that it is as easy as you make it out to be.

He ***** slapped us for our OCC schedule, but then I heard him an our later go the other way... talking about other teams that contradicted what he said about us.
No specifics but still he did it.
Lost total respect from me.

are all in the top50 this year. They've all played in S'ville.

The hard part is figuring out whether or not a team will be top 50, but scheduling teams like that gives you a good shot and those wins still look a hell of a lot better than beating SELA.

Being in the West kills us and there is nothing we can do about it. Lots of top 50 wins come from conference play for other teams. We only get 4 conference chances this year.

given the fact we have quite a number of wins JUST below that number that apparently mean nothing because EVERYTHING for these 'experts' end after 50. Also, they throw up the 1-4 record against the Top 50 without any discussion of how we got to that number. Yeah, yeah, I know a win is a win and a loss is a loss but come on we've only had one of those at home against the best of the bunch (KY) and we go to OT there and got horrible officiating. Add to that a Richmond loss by one stinking point where we had a 5 point lead going into the final minute and a 3 point loss IN NASHVILLE where we had a shot in the final 5 seconds to tie. The only other loss was a respectable loss to FL in Gainesville but we certainly did not have a chance at the end of that one. I agree we have not done ourselves a lot of favors this year but what I saw on the discussion tonight was Bilas working HARD to frame us in the most negative light possible and nobody else really playing up the other side. And I don't consider saying we pass the "eye test" as a defense of why we should get in the tourney.

I don't think that it is as easy as you make it out to be.

Difficult?...yeah sure. Impossible?...hardly.

But you are asking the wrong question. You should be asking if we can STOP scheduling so many terrible RPI teams. If you stop scheduling so many teams that are consistently in the bottom 150 and replace em with teams that are even in the top 150, then you instantly go up in RPI and most likely SOS.
So while getting top 50 programs in here may be tough, it isnt what is needed. Just making the bottom half of our schedule less disgustingly ****** will help improve our body of work. Sure we would still have 1 top 50 RPI, but our RPI would be higher than it currently is and we would be slotted in a more favorable position.

Every goodteam schedules bad teams in the non-con season. We just have to not schedule so many ****** ones.

SELSU- 210
Betune Cookman- 259
Texas Pan Am- 339
St Bonnie- 180
DePaul- 185
Centenary- 303
Miss Val St- 331

7 of our non conference games were against teams lower than 180 in the RPI. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? 3 of em are in the 300s!!!
Just taking the 3 in the 300s and replacing em with teams in the low 200s would help. And thats barely trying.

UK played 2 teams that have an RPI lower than 220...just to set a bar.

With LSU included, we play 8 teams lower than 200.

Purdue, New Mexico, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, Temple, Northern Iowa, Baylor, Butler, Wisconsin, Xavier, BYU, Cal...that's almost half of the RPI top 25. Are any of those programs unrealistic in swinging a home and home or maybe at worst a 2 for 1?

UAB's at 31. Dayton or Va. Tech in the 40s. Texas Tech, Florida State. Plenty of programs to choose from.

You have at minimum 13 OOC games per year. Maybe throw in an exempt tourney (Hawaii next year) and then play 4 of the above mentioned teams. 2 on the road, 2 at home, or mix in a neutral game if you have to. Play ONE game that could be a potential beating...travel to Syracuse, Villanova, UNC, Texas...get a paycheck and if you pick up the W, it's a bonus. That still leaves you 6 or 8 games against the SWAC and directional Louisiana schools.

Hell, nobody's saying go out and schedule the nation's toughest schedule, but there is PLENTY of room to work with. Play some teams with substance instead of playing 13 trash games.

wasn't everyone in love with the UCLA, Depaul, Houston and Western KY games? And then we had Missouri as a likely matchup?

Yea, we could schedule better. But the problem is, every season we just lose to teams we have on business losing to. I think we should have gone 14-1 in the conference schedule. Instead, we are now 21-8 and on hte bubble and not 23-6 with probably just needing to win one more game to solidify our chances.
