1. Mullen is as secretive as J. Edgar Hoover about practice- but wants everyone to believe Russell also being listed as a 1 on the depth chart

2. Manny talks about all the big plays the offense had in the scrimmage- then stories come out that Farvuh outshined Russell and Relf when they couldn't move the ball- and then that is followed by another story talking about how great the RB's looked- all 4 of them. Why couldnt Relf and Russell move the ball if the RB's were looking so good?

3. Some of our fans are believing the hype that we are going to air it out and become more of a passing Spread...and Russell is really challenging for the starting job- but Relf gets 80% of the snaps with the 1st team. We are going to line the f*ck up and run over Memphis next Saturday. We'll start throwing after we get a lead. Relf's 1st passes will be a quick screen and play-action off one of our runs.

I don't personally believe we'll be airing it out, but I do believe Russell has shown tons of improvement.

I've heard it straight from players on the team that he could have played and contributed some last year (towards end of season), but they didn't want to burn the redshirt so late with Alabama, Ark and OM left on the schedule.

Chris Relf hasn't proved that he is a legit D1 QB. Yes he made umiss look worse than an all girls, 2 hand touch, sorority powderpuff team; buthe hasn't won another college game and couldn't beat out Tiny Lee. I fear hopes of Relf the QB are way too high. When I see Relf lead a team down the field throwing the ball then I will be ok with him as a QB. Until he proves he can throw it he will just be a RB that is taking snaps, not a QB. We will find out against Auburn because they won't let him beat them running the ball, they will load the box and make him throw.

Coach, I am one of the posters who actually likes you and agrees with much of what you say. However, the Tyler Russell stuff is getting old. I don't disagree that Relf is the guy. Very fewpeople will argue that fact. Heck, Russell is a redshirt freshman, and redshirt freshman don't QB in this league very well. I hope Relf throws 100 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, rushes for 2000 yards, and we go 14-0. I want to succeed and I want our players to succeed. However, I get the feeling that if Russell comes into the game against Auburn with the score tied 14-14, you will actually root for him to throw an interception, just so you can come on the board and tell people how right you were. I believe you would rather be right than seeMSU succeed. I am one of those that said I don't believe Relf rushes for 1000 yards. The difference between me and you is that I hope I'm wrong. I would love nothing more than for Relf to rush for 1500 yards, and me gladly come on here and eat crow. It is more important forMSU to succeed than for me to look like a genius on a freaking message board.

I forgot we were up 17-14 with 4 minutes left in the first half, and that included MSU having to take a field goal after a holding penalty inside their red zone. Their points included that "gift" pick 6 early in the game. If you also recorded this game, watch up to 4:32 left in the first half and then turn it off. But watching Relf keep it around the end gets my wool thick. That guy can flat out fly and he can take a hit. If he can complete 50% without turning it over much, he will be in there over 80% of the time.

Tyler Russell is a redshirt freshman, it'll take him some time and he'll make some mistakes which should make 34 happy. TR was a great HS qb and did a lot to help with recruiting other guys in the 2009 class. I know idiot34 knows more than Saban and Spurrier, but they had visits with Russell late in the recruiting to try and sign him. Give the kid a little time......Coach</p>

I know this site is making money. Surely you're not working for free. Post about Russell a couple of times a week and then Stansbury when appropriate - and get paid. Must be nice.

like Croom would after every practice. It seemed like every evening we'd read the practice reports and it would be a roller coaster - one day he'd be dogging the receivers, next day he'd dog the defense. Or he'd use the media to "send messages" to particular players who weren't living up to his standards.

Mullen is a refreshing change. He keeps every thing so close to the vest, it's hard to really speculate on any thing. It also has helped keep (at least my) expectations lower.

your words- not mine...I just talked about him getting few reps with the 1st team offense and I think people need to temper their enthusiasm about us slingin it alot this season

c34 has really gone out on limb with his1 stgame offence'splan. Line up and run over them and 1st pass is screen or play action play! That is over the top, noone has ever thought of that. I hope when you talk to Mullen and the rest of the staff that theytake your in depth analyse to heart and we win.

because if they did, I missed it.

I have seen people say that Tyler Russell will throw it more when he plays. I don't think that's really a big stretch.

I want to see what Florida looks like with Brantley, because that will be more likely what we look like with Russell.

It's almost like C34 and Russell hooked up one night when they were both drunk at a bar and now Coach has to diss him every chance he gets so his internet friends don't catch on. I'm sure Jerry springer will bring Coach on the show to prove it's not his child!!!

at the same time, he is about 6'5 1/2' and 230. Dont know to many who say he is competing for the starting job, just competing to play. I was at the spring game and Relf would have looked no differant on that team. funny how Veazy cant get info on practice but everyone knows someone in the the know. HOpe both guys do well but I'm oversold on the next 5'8" qb for us who "short in heigth, but big on heart" 17that, give me Relf or Russells size.

If we have a run pass ratio of 50/50, 60/40, or even 40/60, I would not say that is a pass first spread. I would say that is more of a balanced spread offense.

There are so many varations of spread offenses, it gets confusing. And I think spread is more of a concept or a philosophy rather than a specific offense such as the wishbone.

But, West Virginia under Rodriguez with Pat White and Slaton- that was a run first spread.

Texas Tech under Mike Leach- that was a pass first spread. I do not believe that we will ever sling it around like Mike Leach under Dan Mullen. Unless we had a severe shortage of running backs and a ton of WR's and a good QB. But when have we ever had a shortage of running backs? and I don't think we will in the short term future, either.

What I think will happen at MSU under Dan is that he is simply going to take the players that he has and make his play calls based around the strengths of his personnel. So, yes, that means that we will throw more with Russell at QB and run less option. Not that it will be scraped, but we will pass more and run less than we are now, and it's all based on the players that we will have.

We averaged 22.5 passes a game last year...I think we top out at 25 a game this year at most...we are going to very much remain a run-first Spread...But I agree that once Russell takes over, and our group of WR's grows up, we will sling it around alot more. We have a really good group of young WR's and could be lethal in years to come.

I also think that could make it much tougher for Mullen to leave for the next few years...we could really have a badass offense in 2012 with the right moves

Did I happen to see a different take on Russell from c34 and that he might have some ability? Inquiring minds are going hummmmm?
