(the same question dawgstudent asked me after he and Bruce spanked our asses in tennis early this summer), are you sitting down?

Let the record reflect that my tennis team has taken down another sixpacker's team again this year. This time Meoff's team was the victim as my team won two very tough matches at #2 and #3 singles to make up for our #1 singles player getting destroyed by a ringer, with patdog winning 6-4, 6-4 at #2 singles and Meoff losing 7-6, 7-6 at #3 singles. Those #2 and #3 matches were what Andre Agassi would call "lunch pail" matches, as in bring your lunch pail and be prepared to work for a long time.

Seriously, it was good to see you guys tonight and it was a very tough match. We knew when the schedule came out that this match was going to be by far the toughest one of the season for us. Good luck to y'all the rest of the season.

Not really. If you're looking to play in that area, I'd get in touch with the local league coordinator for that district, which is Nancy Palmer [email protected] You might also get in touch with the Magnolia Tennis Club in Columbus (don't have contact info for them but they should be in the phone book) and I see that a guy named Robert Cadenhead captained a team out of Starkville, you might see if he's in the phone book and give him a call.

or maybe he hasn't recovered yet from the lunch pail singles match. 7-6, 7-6 - that's a tough way to go down.

i'm going to have to get back into tennis this spring. singles isn't really my game, though...

I can tell you that he was on the court for a long time last night. My opponent was 20 minutes late because there was an accident on Lakeland Dr. We had almost a 2 hour match and Meoff and his opponent hadn't been finished long when we finished. The guy he played is a good player and he said Meoff gave him all he could handle.

He has two bad ankles too.

DS and I want to know when you are going to move up to our division.
You might be there before you know it...

FYI.. I won my first singles match, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 and I might just call it a season...
Move on to captaining and drinking...

Move on to captaining and drinking.

That's what our captain was doing last night. You didn't see his *** out there on the court for a tough match. As for moving up, I'm sure I'll get bumped up for next year (Meoff probably will too). That's one reason I'm enjoying this year as much as I can. Winning about 80% of my matches and having 4 of my 5 teams this year go to state is great. But I know that next year I'll be doing good to break .500.

BTW, real nice win for you last night. I don't know how your opponent played, but when he's on he's a hell of a player. I played him in mixed doubles this summer when he was on fire, and they just destroyed me and my partner.</p>

It's almost like a fun league in that, even though the scores do count and are posted to your record, if you win your league there's no state tournament to advance to. The season started in mid-October and runs through the second week in December.

As soon as that 17'er lobbed me for the 47th and final time at match point, my first thought was, "Well, patdog will have this **** on sixpack tomorrow." That was really my main motivation for playing my *** off against a player who was supposed to beat me handily.

Thanks to lawdawg and fishwater for starting my excuse list, and believe me, I could come up with plenty more... BUT, the bottom line is, I probably serve-and-volleyed too much, and I just downright Carlsoned in both tiebreakers. Unlike some coaches, I will admit when I make mistakes.

We will meet again, though, oh lobmaster... yes we will...
