Getting angry about a column written in the Jackson Free Press about SEC football is like taking financial advice from the Iowa Crop Report.

It's not like that was phenominal journalism. Just a State fan with an ax to grind and a public outlet to do it. As much as I love saying the same things, let's just call this what it is- fandom rambling.

that 6-4 (2-0) is a really great season and the Egg Bowl doesn't matter because UM is going to the Cotton Bowl? I understand looking at the positives, but based on what y'all had coming back and the very favorable schedule, this season was not good. Luckily, you have another favorable schedule and even though your team should not be as good it will probably win 7 games fairly easily. Edited to add: If roles were reversed, I'd probably say the same thing as Rebel fans....why not?

out of this post and turn it into a flame war.

We'd all love to have won the SEC West this year, but most of us reasonable posters expected at least 2-3 losses this season. It was disappointing to lose the Egg Bowl and get that 4th loss. I'd be a liar if I said differently. However, even if we had lost only 2 SEC games this season, it wouldn't have mattered. Bama still would have won the SEC West. They were just too good this season.

We didn't anoint ourselves as a top 10 team. The media did. As a matter of fact, some media outlets had more realistic predictions for us, but people on both sides chose to ignore them and talk about the top ten rankings because it fit their respective arguments. Media expectations are for talking heads. Just like recruiting services, they are just educated guesses. They don't always pan out.

When you consider this and the fact that Nutt took over a team coming off 4 straight losing seasons (not to mention Eddie O), it's easy to get excited about another Cotton Bowl. We just had back to back 8 win regular seasons with a chance for back to back NYD bowl and 9 win seasons. The last time we had back to back 8 win seasons was 89-90 under Brewer. That was 20 years ago. We had not beaten UT since 1983. The last time we beat Ark, LSU, and UT in the same season was 1983. That's over 25 years ago. The last time we went to back to back NYD bowls was like 70-71. That's 38 years ago. The last time we beat LSU & Arkansas both in back to back seasons was 52-53. That's 46 years ago.

I understand your optimism in regards to Mullen. I've said many times that I think he is a good coach and will turn it around. However, if you can't understand our pleasure with back to back NYD bowls, then how can you possibly expect the average OM fan to understand your optimism in regards to a 5-7 season. Take out the ridiculous schedule and head to head matchup smack (because outside of our fan bases, nobody else cares about our SOS or Egg Bowl), because at the end of the day going to and winning bowls and championships is all that matters in the big scheme. It depends on whats more important in your mind. If talking smack at your local MS church, office, or cafe is what matters most to you, then certainly the Egg Bowl victory is important. And we certainly love to have won the Egg Bowl, won the SEC West, and had a chance at an SEC title, but the fact that all those things didn't happen won't diminish a good season. Any bulldog fan that wouldn't take back to back NYD bowls needs to tell me when the last time MSU did it.

...well, ever.

The lowered expectations crap you typed is pure crap.

We all know it's pure crap because of what you rebels posted on this board all summer.

Also, there is no way you or anybody else associated with UMiss football ever thought you would go 2-3 within the SECW this season.

If me or any other MSU poster would have posted here in August that MSU is going to beat the ever loving you-know-what out of OM in this year's Egg Bowl, you, jackoff, roscoe, Bruiser, OP4 would have linked that post to NAFOOM & laughed about it for a solid two weeks.

Lastly, I need some riot gear. Can you hook me up?

were considered a relevant poster here or anywhere else. I'm quite sure you'll have some followers in this thread (mostly due to my username and not the substance of my post) as there has been an influx of GPers like yourself lately. Speaking of which, where were you at all year leading up to the Egg Bowl?

I think you should go look at preseason prognosticators and look at the predictions for OM by OM fans. I know there will be some 11-1 & 12-0 type predictions, but every fan base has those. I think you will find that most reasonable posters predicted 2-3 losses.

Speaking of spin, I love how you broke our record out by "SEC West" as if anything but your overall SEC record is what matters.

the homer-rific garbage you spew on this message board. You are easily one of the worst Ole Miss posters that frequents this site.

... if you want to go down the relevant poster path, I happen to be a Miss. State posting on a MSU board.

That would make me about a million times more relevant to this board than some UMiss troll still trying to convince himself that Egg Bowl asswhipping didn't matter.

"When you consider this and the fact that Nutt took over a team coming off 4 straight losing seasons (not to mention Eddie O), it's easy to get excited about another Cotton Bowl."

Boo hoo, you had 4 losing seasons. Surely you realize that 3 of them were self inflicted when you fired the best coach you had since Vaught and hired a complete idiot. At the end of the day Ole Miss is back to square one. Nutt will end up being Cut part 2.

By the way, there are two reasons you will go to the Cotton this season: 1) your schedule was ridiculously weak and 2) the SEC had a down year and there's simply nobody else ahead of you. Seriously, you went 4-4 while having Arkansas, Bama, LSU, and Tenn at home and SC, Vandy, Auburn, and MSU on the road. Pardon me for not being blown away by the results of your team. Honestly, the difference between our SEC records is the end of the LSU game - ya'll pulled it out and we didn't. Think about that. We have Croom's players, plus a bunch of newcomers Mullen added, and no passing game to speak of, yet we are a few feet away from having the same SEC record as you. Save the smack, I'm not impressed.
