Young Starting pitching is the key to us having a successful season.

Forrest and Routt have played lights out in their season debuts. I think in order for us to do anything above what we are expected to do, those 2 guys along with a few other young guys have to step up big for us. Starting pitching killed us last year. It may be early, but we beat a pretty good team in USA, and Forrest pitched great. Definately a great sign this early in the season as we go forward into the rest of this homestand and our trip to Hawaii.

Routt has certainly pitched well, but he hasn't faced an SEC caliber team yet. The biggest problem we have right now as I see it is we have no bullpen depth whatsoever. It's basically Chad Crosswhite.

We really need Micheal Busby and Justin Bussey to step up. Maybe they will. I thought Hollinghead pitched really well a couple of days ago as well. The rest of the guys scare me. If I was the coach, I'd move Devin Jones to the bullpen. He was worn out after three innings, but he has a great fastball.

I'm glad to see he seems to be moving back to his form of 2 years ago instead of last year

Pretty much say that there is not a whole lot going on with State baseball. He said that SEC Tourney is out of the question and that basically we shouldn't be surprised if we start the SEC schedule 4-11.
I don't think we're by any means loaded with talent and in the upper echelon of SEC baseball this year, but that's a little harsh. Esp. with a 4-1 start.

The beginning of our SEC schedule is pretty rough. 3 home games against South Carolina then 3 at georgia and 3 at arkansas. That will probably decide our fate in the SEC, even though its kinda early because if we get off to a bad start I think our young team my pack it in. I think if that happens it will be interesting to see how Cohen gets the team refocused. It gets easier after that with 3 at home against auburn and 3 at tennessee, but those first 3 series are gonna be tough. I think we really need to take 2 out of 3 from USC to give ourselves some momentum heading into georgia and arky with some midweek games against UAB, USM, USA, and Memphis in between.

or at least isn't supposed to be. We'll see.

4-1 even against this schedule is not bad. But we really haven't done anything to get too excited about.

I'm probably way too woolly about baseball right now, but I have us at 6-6 through the first 12 SEC games for the simple fact that we get Auburn at DNF for our 4th series.

Graddawg + John Cohen + 4-1 start =

...on a rare occasion about a week ago, I listened to his radio show.

It was pathetic.

I don't get why some people here like Bo Bounds.

He doesn't even possess the sports knowledge a coach34 or a OEMdog.

6 and 6 might not be a stretch. I think we should take 2 of 3 from auburn, and if we can take 2 of 3 at home against USC and 1 game against both georgia and arky, that would put us at 6 and 6. I think that is definately a possibility. Both Arky and Georgia are ranked, with georgia definately being the most likely spot for us to get swept out of those 4 series, but I think 6 and 6 is something that I would be happy with if we came out of the first 4 series at. Would keep us in position to make the SEC Tournament I think.
