Marble -- they're so tasty they make normally mild-mannered comedians mug little old ladies.

Colonel Taylor rye is tops of my list. Stuff tastes good enough they should consider making it illegal.

Best I've had:

  • Booker's Rye
  • Wild Turkey Masters' Keep Cornerstone Rye
  • Multiple Old Scout Single Barrel Ryes (MGP distilled, 7-9 years old)

Best that are fairly easy to find today:
  • Old Forester Rye
  • Rittenhouse Bottled in Bond
  • Pikesville
  • Knob Creek Single Barrel Rye Picks
  • Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Rye

Just bought a bottle of Old Forester Rye. Will open this weekend. Looking forward to it.

In like 2010/2011, the Party Source had this very small rye release that Buffalo Trace had done under the Abraham Bowman label. It was really high proof - upper 130’s if I recall - and old, though I forget the exact age statement. The single best whiskey I ever tasted. Simply sublime; the perfect rye whiskey. It had notes that I have not experienced since, or ever.

It lingered on the shelves for months - back then, no one would pay 70 bucks for a whiskey they never heard of. They even hung up placards on the shelf stating something along the lines of, “this is supremely good, you really should buy it.” But no one did. Think I drank three of them over the course of six months or so.

Wish I would have bought several cases. But, the “I wish / going back in time” game with whiskey is a dangerous and sorrowful road to go down, so I try to just be happy with the fact that I got to enjoy it when I did.

I had Handy’s BTAC a couple weeks back. It blew my head off on first sip, but then softened and gushed spicy oils all over my mouth.

fantastic.

too bad I’ll never have it again.

Like to get my hands on some Parker’s Heritage heavy char...

spose to be dope AF

It’s really good. The Heaven Hill distillate does well with the alligator char. Has the body to stand up to it. Hopefully they do some more.

(My wet dream is them re-upping the discontinued 6YO BIB with this char - there would never be a need to drink anything else. Ever.)

^ The guy at the liquor store said he heard from a distributor that the Evan BIB will be the next thing to disappear. Don’t want to believe it, but wouldn’t be surprised.

Cool that you can get the 1783 where you are at. I didn’t realize that was a national label. It’s a nice dram.

Shifting gears, but DEPs in Fort Thomas, which is a decently large liquor store on the KY scene (though not approaching party source size), is out of Old Grand Dad 114. I asked the guy there, and he said the distributor is not expecting to get any soon. I’m afraid that might be the latest shoe to drop. Another great one bites the dust.

Jeesh.

You can’t find McKenna 10 anymore either. That was some low shelf well bourbon. Screw cap.

I just snagged E.H. Taylor Barrel proof as well as 1792 Full proof because of reviews. It’s ridiculous.

Total Wine guy said if you’re not buying $1400 a month of bourbon you’re not a preferred customer. So I can forget running into an exotic bottle anytime soon. The Indian dude shops up here ARE a secondary market and don’t give a **** about charging 500% markup.

Some rich douche will buy it.

Pikesville is my favorite. OGD just jumped from $20 to $31.99 and is enjoying a nice run on the quiet increase. Groups like HH are being crushed for increasing prices.
I went to David Pickerell’s (RIP) operation at Hillrock in upstate NY. They farm and malt their own 100% rye. It was so goddamn good. Fresh cucumber on the nose. It was crazy.

Evan Williams put out a 2019 promotional MLB (baseball) line that’s supposedly different and excellent too.

Krazy, is that price for a fifth of OGD BIB? It wasn’t long ago a handle cost 32. Jeez.

Kooky, you just can’t keep up anymore. I’ve probably bought 30k of bourbon at my place over the past ten years, and I was booted off their lottery list for not buying enough. F**k em. I’ll buy wild turkey from the Patel’s.
