In like 2010/2011, the Party Source had this very small rye release that Buffalo Trace had done under the Abraham Bowman label. It was really high proof - upper 130’s if I recall - and old, though I forget the exact age statement. The single best whiskey I ever tasted. Simply sublime; the perfect rye whiskey. It had notes that I have not experienced since, or ever.
It lingered on the shelves for months - back then, no one would pay 70 bucks for a whiskey they never heard of. They even hung up placards on the shelf stating something along the lines of, “this is supremely good, you really should buy it.” But no one did. Think I drank three of them over the course of six months or so.
Wish I would have bought several cases. But, the “I wish / going back in time” game with whiskey is a dangerous and sorrowful road to go down, so I try to just be happy with the fact that I got to enjoy it when I did.
