I posted the full story in the thread about the Mets but I got a hit off a future MLB pitcher while in high school. I'm sure Dave Fleming remembers it as well as I do. He finished 3rd in ROY voting but developed arm troubles and was gone after a few years. He was kind of a Greg Maddux type pitcher. He wasn't going to blow you away but you weren't going to hit the ball solid off him a lot either. Ground ball up the middle for a single.

Ran against Mark Nenow in the 1983 BG 10,000, where he set the record that still stands. He barely beat me by 20 minutes or so, but if it had been 5K, I could have taken him without a doubt

When I was 9, our soccer team won bronze at the inaugural blue grass state games.

We won the 3rd place game in penalty kicks. I wore #1, so I shot first and scored.

(Oddly, I remember that our first three games were against Versailles, Winchester, and Owensboro, respectively. But I cannot recollect who we played in that 3rd place game. I know it was not a team from Lexington, because I distinctly remember that the “Lexington Colts” lost to Owensboro in the gold medal game).

- I tackled ( got *trucked* but he went down as well) a dude that played on the US men's national rubgy team at a game in Indy sometime in the early aughts...can't remember his name or the year, what with all the partying and cte.

-dislocated a dudes shoulder at a tourney in north Carolina. It made a noise that is hard to forget.

Beating then #1 in the state Lexington Catholic in a penalty shootout (soccer). We were a county team so it was especially sweet to beat LC.

I was the starting senior goalkeeper. Made a couple standout saves and stopped a breakaway to get it to penalties. I'll admit I didn't save any penalties but I'll take credit for making the Catholic players miss 2-3 times thru intimidation. 😅 (I was one of those goalies who cheated my *** off on PKs. Would ALWAYS get a step and a hop before the player shot to make myself bigger. Don't think I ever got called for it either my entire career since 12-U. 😅)

Was in front of our home crowd. Will never forget that game.

Dad lost his job and I had to leave my white catholic school and go to public school in 8th grade. Tried out for basketball team and this Man child Jermaine Brown dunked on me and all 4 of my pubic hairs and his dick fouled me in the face. Can’t believe I didn’t make the team after taking the charge

Myself and my friend coach in special Olympics. Two years ago, our team won the state title. We had a lot of younger guys that were really hitting their maturity level and it was awesome to see the growth in them

we also won last year, but it was a shortened tournament due the Covid, but that 2019 title was awesome

Made every putt I looked at to shoot a -2 69 in a ky statewide golf tournament senior year. Finished second in what used to be the Mountain Dew tour, no idea what it's called these days. Don't think I've broken 80 in the last 10 years, wish I could get back to playing more 😕

Was stationed in Germany in 93 after leaving FT Sill OK where I played softball in the summer leagues. During the unit summer leagues in Germany we won our district and were awaiting the large European Championship tournament being held in Grafenwhor about a month or so later. While waiting I took leave to OK because my sons where still there. While there I played in the Class B State tournament in Norman with my old team in which we won the Championship then, got back to Germany in time to play the European unit levels championships and won that one beating a military team out of Norway for the championship. The championship game was aired on AFN (Armed Forces Network) all over Europe. Was a good year.

Rolled a 288 in a team bowling league one night. It stood as the highest score for the season and I won $100. That's been about 40 years or so ago. Hadn't thought about that in years and the reason I remembered it was because I saw where the league president who gave me the check died about 3 weeks ago. Hated to see that. He was a really good dude who was a leader in youth sports in the community. Over the years he coached and hauled many a kid who didn't have a ride to and from practices and games so they could play.

When stationed in Turkey in the late sixties, the police unit had a fast pitch softball team. We were pretty good and won the base championship. They decided to have a base all star team that would go to Germany and play in the all European championship. I was pissed at the chief of police, so I told the guys I wasn't playing. The chief came to the barracks and asked me to play shortstop for the base team. Because I was pissed at him, I told him no. Boy, did I show him. The guys got a month off to play in two tournaments. Because we were short handed and because I pissed off the Captain, I got to hump a post every night for a month without a day off while the guys drank beer and played ball. Boy I sure taught that captain a lesson he would never forget.

Won my flight (and it wasn’t the lowest!) in my club’s golf tournament last summer.

I obviously haven’t had much of an athletic career.

I hope you did not get any splinters humping that post. ;)

You know what humping a post is, but for the non military, walking a security beat instead of a cushy job driving a patrol car or working an ecp. Entry control point.
Yeah I know but, I just had to. Walked many post in my days. Do you remember the UP's? Glorified gate guards in most places but, at Fliegerhorst Kaserne in Hanau we had our own drug dogs, Vans with cages for taking in drug pushers, shotguns, and night sticks. We augmented the MP's because there were not enough of them and the community commander for all of the Kasernes around Hanau (a Brigadier General) deputized volunteers who wanted to join the UP's to help so, I joined. Just about every night on the strip headed away from post was a nightmare walk for many going in to town. There were many times people were jumped and some badly beaten and cut up.

I was a state champion baseball player back in high school, but I'd say my most memorable sports accomplishment came in 6th or 7th grade in a game of dodgeball where I hit a kid so hard in the face that it knocked him flat on his back. He had already thrown his ball and was looking towards the other side of the court distracted for just a moment too long and I just threw an absolute rope that nailed him right in the face. I still get goosebumps thinking about it.

Probably the most fun I've had playing sports was my sixth grade middle school basketball team. That was before puberty back when I still had great coordination and I was a pretty good ball handler running the point. Our team was a bunch of schlubs, but it was fun going out there and just laying it all out there and battling. I was like this psycho hustler who never gave up and we snuck out some games we had no business winning. Basketball was so damn fun.

No problem. I enjoy a sense of humor and a good laugh.

He set an unofficial world record in the 10k at the Crescent City Classic back in the 80s, and my friends here in New Orleans still reminisce about that day on a regular basis.

I consistently point out to them that he was wearing a Todd’s Road Stumblers t shirt for that record setting performance.
