Got this from LA Times. Didd't copy whole article but here is latest. No end in sight it seems.

  • YouTube TV’s 10 million subscribers have lost access to ESPN, ABC and other Disney channels in one of the decade’s largest TV blackouts.
  • Disney executives on Friday said the two sides remain apart on key points in the negotiations..
  • YouTube TV is counting on its loyal customers to stick with the service despite the blackout, which could give the tech giant Google, which owns YouTube, more leverage in the dispute.
YouTube TV customers can expect another frustrating weekend.
For the last week, YouTube TV’s 10 million subscribers have been denied access to ESPN, ABC and other Walt Disney Co. channels in a dispute that has swelled into one of the largest TV blackouts in a decade. Instead of turning on “College GameDay,” “Monday Night Football” or “Dancing With the Stars,” customers have been greeted with a grim message: “Disney channels are unavailable.”
The two sides remain far apart on key deal terms.
“Unfortunately, we are headed into another sports-packed weekend without a deal in place,” ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro and Disney Entertainment Co-Chairs Dana Walden and Alan Bergman wrote in a memo to staff members on Friday.

I am growing very tired of ESPN and Youtube tv. I cannot log into my ESPN account that I pay for. Because ESPN app does not recognize YouTube tv or will let me log into my ESPN app using YouTube tv. Which logging into espn app requires you to provide your tv provider.

I really wanted to watch the baseball game tonight and SEC football tomorrow.
Oh well just another reason to say screw it I’m doing something else other than watch NCAA sports.

This negotiation is a little different that the others that Disney is used to. They can make dish and direct tv break pretty quickly. However Google is a behemoth that has much deeper pockets than anyone else including Disney

And their product is good enough that people will be back in due time even if they do lose subscribers now.

You know it wouldn’t be a bad thing if they hold out and win. It would hold the price if YTTV down and set a price point for negotiation for other providers so they don’t have to increase.

Google may be a behemoth, but ultimately this is a battle they can’t win. If this goes on much longer they will lose massive subscribers.

I'm not sure they can't win it. Time will tell.
I still say all of the ingredients of a Anti-trust case are present.

They can lose a bunch. But I don’t know about a complete exodus. You have a ton of people that don’t care that much about ESPN. They wanna watch other stuff. But their subscriptions count as a Disney loss.

And again.. they have such a decent product that people will come right back when it gets worked out.

I canceled yttv and went with fox/disney/espn bundle for half of what I was paying, never watched any of the other channels anyway and have an antenna for local if needed.
A good way to go. Just curious….How do you record the antenna channels? I tried Tablo a couple of years ago and it sucked for me. Slow and wouldn’t bring any of the sub channels in to the menu. I know some have had good luck but others had the same experience as me.

Since they are not playing nice, ESPN app won’t work with your provider until they kiss and make up.

Only way for you to watch ESPN app right now is to upgrade ESPN package to $29.99 per month and then you don’t need to sign in with a provider. (They have some sign up deals right now…)

You can watch everything you want to watch on regular YouTube. Gameday, sec nation, and the game. All right there streaming on regular free YouTube. Just install the YouTube app on your streaming device, search for those broadcasts, and make it full screen and it's no different that a paid service. Personally, I use an IPTV service with 21,000 4K streams at $25/mo

For awareness, this is not necessarily the case.

- FuboTV offers a free 3 day trial that would cover the weekend and includes access through the ESPN app (just set FuboTV as your tv provider inside the app and sign-in) https://www.fubo.tv/stream/live/preview/

- DirecTV streaming offers a 5 day free trial - https://www.directv.com/stream/ with ESPN app access

-SlingTV Orange offers a day pass for $5.99 including the ESPNs and SECN

The only time I ever watch the local channels is weather related

It’s not a battle that they have to win. That’s the thing. YTTV may not even be a Top 10 profit center within the Alphabet business umbrella. It definitely isn’t Top 5. The streaming providers in general don’t have very high margins (see Sony pulling out of it entirely as evidence), so its a big, big problem for everyone else. But not Alphabet.

They will be perfectly content to operate YTTV with a smaller subscriber base and remain profitable, as opposed to bowing to ESPN for more subscribers but less profit. I honestly think ESPN wants YTTV out of the game, so they can extort companies like Sling and DirecTV for even more money based on exclusivity. They don’t really want to make a deal with them, but they have to pretend like they are trying.

I’ve had Tablo for a month or so now and have been happy with it overall but I’ve seen numerous stories about people having issues.

They acknowledged my email, which told them they have one week left, or I would be changed to DIRECTV. My family watches ABC too much to drop a service.
