That is how many deaths were reported from COVID in today's report from the Dept of Health. Number of new cases, patients in ICU, and on ventilators is holding pretty steady, but no new deaths the last 24 hours is great news.

But, but, but the coronabros kept telling us the #'s in ICU & on ventilators was lagging data when the case counts did not pop in August when the students returned! It has been at least 3 weeks now.

Great news. If this trend of fewer cases and low death totals continues, no reason to think we can’t ramp up reopening in the near future. And you’d think that if the trend continues there’s a good chance that 25% capacity number for DWS goes up by the end of the season.

Both of the hotels are full that they reserved and a third in Columbus has 20 kids. I'd say that is a fairly solid sign things arent getting better.

But guess where they're not - the hospital. They're being quarantined because they tested positive. I'm willing to bet most aren't even sick; they're just following protocol. But by all means, let's keep dramatizing the situation.

Devil is in the details on this stuff as while infections rate are not going to go down during initial school openings we aren’t seeing people get seriously ill which is a good sign.

I’ve known several people have it over the past few weeks and all with very mild symptoms that were done in 3-5 days.

They are not even being quarantined because they've tested positive. Some have tested positive, yes, but the vast majority who are having to quarantine are those who have come into close contact or live with someone who has tested positive. Following MSDH/CDC guidelines.

How many of them are actually sick? How many have required any medical treatment beyond some hot tea and a cold washcloth?

Get back to me with that information, then we can talk about how bad this virus is getting for healthy college aged people.

I bet he’s just fine with that. Because ultimately that is the outcome we all want to see.
Either he's promoting the virus, or he's a huge fear-based simp (or both). It's one of the two. No person who calls himself any semblance of a man can peddle the fear or show this whiny emotion like these coronabros (it's...it's just NOT OKAY!!!!!). I know, I know, toxic masculinity, and I'm a monster.

This is the reality. Nobody wants to be sick but to be scared to the level that some folks are, it's just embarrassing for them.

Virus is running its course....
Regardless of what any politician or 'expert' says, the general public has not changed their personal protocols since May. The only real difference is the shutting down of bars, so that MAY have helped. But the masks in the grocery haven't done a thing.

Since we are on the subject, here is a very interesting article that looks beyond anecdotal evidence when it comes to declining cases and possible causes,

https://alachuachronicle.com/is-the...foiuubrNmllPdRK0JYoIAgt2sdoFSlpFsh8vDPQEpieoI

The money quote: "The graph of Florida’s cases and deaths looks very similar to Farr’s law, right down to the ~21-day lag between the peaks in cases and deaths, making normal behavior of viruses a more likely explanation for the rise and fall of cases/deaths than the behavior of the population."

It is amazing to me that we have tried to explain a respiratory virus running its course by pointing to the moral failings of the population in question. I know there were sects during the major plague outbreaks that believed it was punishment and that flailing themselves and what not would protect them, but have we ever tried to tie pandemics to moral failings since we have understood what viruses and bacteria are? I guess maybe we did that with HIV for a while? It's just hard for me to believe we are still doing it.

So true. And I still say the “purest” is Sweden’s hospitalization chart since they didn’t have a full lockdown to distort the numbers. It follows Far’s law almost to a T as do the hospitalization rates in most of the southern states that are in similar state of opening.

Good news fore sure!

Hoping against hope, huh? OCH just announced friday that for the first time since April they did not have a single covid patient anywhere in the hospital. But no, things aren't getting better. Dubmas. I have three kids up at state and all have said the same thing, most of the people quarantined are contact precautions not positive testers.

My son (MSU Freshman) tested negative but is currently quarantined because he was in close contact with someone who tested positive. He was offered the COVID hotel but opted to come home instead. He's not had any symptoms and should be back on campus next week - just in time to get tested again.

I've been saying for months we're not going to have a flu season this winter. With all the precautions, mask wearing, social distancing, store closings and restrictions, etc. there's just not going to be much flu transmission.

Amazing how taking precautions to reduce transmission for one virus spread by droplets can also cause a reduction in transmission for another virus spread by droplets.

Also give credit to the most vulnerable people during the first virus spread not being Impacted by the next virus because they are not around. But when can we take the mask off?

I'd rather have the flu for a week, than do all of that.
