Alabama Crimson Tide fans are in unprecedented territory in the hours leading to the SEC Championship tilt vs. the Georgia Bulldogs.

There’s a reason college football fans may feel like the SEC title game and Alabama football have become synonymous. The Tide have 14 appearances in the SEC Championship, including Saturday’s battle vs the Bulldogs. Nine of those appearances have resulted in victories for Alabama, and Nick Saban was the head coach for seven of those titles.

Saturday’s game is being played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Saban has led the Tide to staggering 15-game win streak in Atlanta. Their last falter in the title game was the loss to Florida 31-20 on Dec. 6, 2008.

Earlier this week, former Notre Dame quarterback and current FOX college football analyst Brady Quinn joined the Dan Patrick show and was asked about the team most likely poised for an upset, specifically mentioning the matchups in the Big 10 and the SEC.

Alabama Crimson Tide fans should have hope after hearing Quinn’s response.

“If you’re going to look at the betting lines I would say Alabama because that’s the closer spread,” Quinn responded initially.

Saban boasts six-consecutive victories for Alabama against Georgia. The Bulldogs most recently defeated the Crimson Tide on Sept. 22, 2007, when Georgia posted a 26-23 overtime thriller. Alabama leads the Tide-Bulldogs series 41-25-4.

The biggest stat from the Crimson Tide’s recent success vs. Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs has a direct correlation to Saturday’s game. Two of the Tide’s victories in the six-game winning streak against Georgia came in the SEC Championship Game, 32-28 in 2012 and 35-28 in 2018.

Quinn says two Alabama Crimson Tide stars are the factor

The FOX college analyst then gave more insight into why there could be a real chance for the Crimson Tide to upset Georgia in Atlanta.

“They’ve got a couple absolute stars,” Quinn said of the Alabama Crimson Tide. “I’d be remised if I didn’t mention Will Anderson. Will Anderson is getting overshadowed against Georgia because the Georgia defense is so good.”

While Kirby Smart has earned well-deserved praise for the dominance from his unit this season, Alabama’s defense is right behind the Bulldogs atop the elite defensive units in the conference.

The rivals are the only two SEC squads who allow less than 300 yards per game at this point in the season. When it comes to stopping the run? Georgia gives up just 78.9 yards per outing while the Crimson Tide allow just 80.7 yards per game.

“They are second to Georgia in almost every category and he’s been the big reason why,” Quinn said about Anderson and the Alabama Crimson Tide defense.

The other star? Quinn believes quarterback Bryce Young has the ability to change games and hide the weaknesses of the Alabama offense.

“Bryce Young really makes up for a lot of their issues up front. Whether it’s schematically or just mismatches–and this will be a tough one for them–but every single week he makes some throws and plays that you just know nobody else is doing this in college football.

Georgia is the team going into this championship weekend you could put on upset alert, just because of the stars the Alabama Crimson Tide have.”

Surely there is plenty of other talent for Saban’s young squad, but according to Brady Quinn, Alabama’s starting quarterback and elite pass rusher are they keys for success on Saturday.
