Alabama defensive back Cam Calhoun ejected for targeting vs. Auburn
Alabama is going to spend the latter half of the second quarter defending a lead in the Iron Bowl. Auburn is hoping to break its own seal, driving down the field due to some big runs. Now, a penalty has greatly benefited the Tigers and even cost the Crimson Tide a player.
Cam Calhoun has been ejected from the game due to a targeting call. Not one initially called on the field, the booth buzzed down after watching a couple of replays. The Alabama defensive back learned his fate shortly after, no longer being allowed to play in this one.
As you can see, Auburn quarterback Ashton Daniels was on the receiving end of the hit. Calhoun did not appear to even be needed, as the Tide defense had Daniels wrapped up. But players are always looking to make their presence known, especially in a rivalry game like this one. Unfortunately, Calhoun will now miss the rest of it.
Calhoun has not seen much time during SEC play. He last got on the field as a defensive player during the win over Missouri. Injuries at defensive back got him a chance vs. Auburn, turning into a short-lived stint.
If there is any positive news on the situation, Calhoun will not miss any time leading into the next Alabama game — whenever that might be. Targeting getting called in the second quarter means no suspension for the first half is in the cards.

Alabama with plenty on the line in the Iron Bowl
More than your normal Iron Bowl stakes are on the line in this one. Alabama is playing for, at the very least, a spot in the SEC Championship game. The Georgia Bulldogs are waiting on the other side, eventually finding out if they will play Alabama or the Ole Miss Rebels.
Then, there is the College Football Playoff. Locking up a spot in the 12-team field is far from a possibility on Saturday night, given where Alabama currently stands. But the Crimson Tide can certainly knock themselves out by losing to Auburn.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer is looking to avoid the fate we saw late last season. A loss in the final quarter of the schedule, sending things for a complete loop. But it’s no easy task going into Jordan-Hare Stadium and coming out with a victory. DeBoer getting his first road Iron Bowl victory would go a long way.
