Alabama Football announces passing of student manager Caden Clay, sends condolences

Alabama football student manager Caden Clay has passed away, the program announced on Wednesday afternoon. Clay was just wrapping up his freshman year in Tuscaloosa and originally from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Born in 2005, Clay was either 18 or 19 years old.
No specific details regarding his death have been released by Alabama. The Crimson Tide took to social media, sending out condolences to Clay’s family and friends.
“Alabama mourns the loss of football student manager Caden Clay,” Alabama Football said via X. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
Clay attended Prosper High School, just under an hour north of Dallas. He played varsity football for the Eagles and according to his Twitter account, Clay camped at SMU and TCU in the summer of 2022. A visit to Oklahoma State even took place in March 2022, being shown around Stillwater by Director of Recruiting Todd Bradford.
Prosper went 13-2 during Clay’s senior season, making it to the 6A-DI state semifinals.
Shortly after the news was announced, Michigan Wolverines Director of Recruiting Sam Popper sent his condolences to Clay’s friends, family, and everyone involved with the Alabama program.

The two were just a few months removed from being on competing sidelines against one another in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Rose Bowl.
“RIP Caden Clay. Thinking about everyone at @AlabamaFTBL and all my good friends there. Caden’s friends and loved ones have all of my support during this time and beyond,” Popper said via X.
Clay got to spend his freshman year working for head coach Nick Saban and his coaching staff, the final season for the legendary head coach. He was slated to continue working under Kalen DeBoer as Alabama just wrapped up spring practice ahead of the 2024 season.
