Alabama head coach Nick Saban has gone viral for being furious on the sidelines several times during his coaching career, including earlier this season.

Saban has no problem admitting that he gets angry at times as a coach, but he also has plenty of happy moments, too. Between recruiting, game planning, watching film, etc. there is always something for a coach to do. But Saban makes sure to take time to enjoy a win when Alabama comes out on top.

He appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday and shared what he likes most about winning games at Alabama.

“I enjoy the wins. I enjoy the wins mostly because I enjoy the wins for the players,” Nick Saban said. “You know, the players work hard. People don’t realize what they put in Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. How they prepare for the game. How much it means to them.”

Saban added that some fans believe they care more about winning than people inside the program. He insists that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“You know, from a fan’s perspective sometimes, they think when you don’t have success that it bothers them more than it does anybody else. Well, the fact of the matter is, it bothers the players more than anybody else, and probably the coaches. And me,” Saban said. “But I’m also really, really happy and excited when I see our players happy and excited. They’re getting positive gratification for their hard work, what they’ve put into it all year long. So that’s the happy part for me.”

While Saban enjoys wins, he doesn’t enjoy them for too long. The Alabama team is given one day to celebrate a victory or mourn a defeat before it’s back to work.

“We have a 24-hour rule around here,” Saban said. “You’ve probably heard about it before — you enjoy the win for 24 hours. If you don’t have success, you commiserate for 24 hours. But then we’ve gotta reset and get ready for the next game.”

Nick Saban gushes about how Miss Terry continues to help him throughout his coaching career

While wins bring Nick Saban happiness on the football field, away from the field, he enjoys spending time with his wife “Miss Terry.” Behind many great people is an equally great and supportive spouse, which is certainly the case for Nick Saban.

During his weekly appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Coach Saban was asked about his wife and whether her life has to revolve around football like his does. Of course, he answered that no, there are other problems and normal issues they deal with, just like everybody else outside of the football world.

“No, it’s not ball all the time. We’re regular old people that have regular old problems,” said Saban. “Dogs die, grandkids have problems — we’re just like everybody else.”

He then went on to explain why his wife’s support is so important for him and detailed how she’s helped him improve as a coach.

“I will say this: She is really supportive of what I do, me, my job,” Saban said, noting that she’s no slouch when it comes to football knowledge. “When we met, I didn’t think she really knew what a first down was. But she knows the game really well. She knows a lot of the players, and she sometimes has pretty good insight on things that I need to do and not do. And she’s made me better through the years in a lot of ways.”
