Alabama football has put up an endless number of mind-blowing statistics during head coach Nick Saban’s tenure in Tuscaloosa. There’s a new stat to add to that ever growing list of impressive stats.

Alabama hasn’t trailed at any point in its last 53 quarters of play, which is the longest streak for any FBS team since 1950, according to Brad Edwards. The last time the Crimson Tide have trailed in a football game was in the 2020 Georgia game.

Edwards is currently writing a book about Alabama’s decade of dominance. It’s called Dynasty By the Numbers. On the cover of the book, it’s got a beautiful picture of the Alabama’s national championship rings from 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2020. Edwards recently joined On3’s Clint Lamb to discuss his book on a podcast if you wanted to listen.

The description of the book on the website reads: “Many books have been written about Alabama football in recent years, but this one is unique. It’s a numbers-driven look at how much better the Crimson Tide have been than all other college football programs over the last 12 to 13 seasons. These pages also make a clear case that the totality of Bama’s dominance – including categories beyond wins and championships, such as the polls, individual awards, NFL Draft picks and recruiting – is unmatched in the history of the sport over so long of a span.”

Edwards spent 25 seasons with ESPN and is best known for his work for them as a BCS analyst from 1999-2013. He also spent 11 seasons as a co-host of College GameDay on ESPN radio.

Alabama has been so unbelievably dominant in college football, it is a full-time job researching all of their different stats and milestones they have reached.

Alabama’s best defense ever

The 2011 version of the Alabama defense was one of the greatest in college football history. They only allowed 8.2 points per game, 183.6 total yards per game, and 111.5 yards passing per game. That defense was only the second defensive unit ever to lead the country in all major stat categories since stats were recorded.

It’s a fair question to ask how a team with such an incredible defense could even lose a game. The 2011 Alabama team lost to LSU that season 9-6 in overtime. That game was in the regular season and the Tide would win the rematch in the 2012 National Championship Game in dominant fashion 21-0. The 2011 version of the LSU secondary was one of the greatest in college football history and it was the greatest defense in LSU history.

Alabama will play No. 12 Ole Miss on Saturday. Kickoff is 3:30 PM in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
