Carson Ozmer sets Alabama baseball record for most saves in single season

Alabama pitcher Carson Ozmer set the school record for most saves in a single season Sunday. As the Crimson Tide resumed a rain-shortened game, Ozmer made history in the win.

Alabama beat Georgia 9-3 before Sunday’s rubber match against the Bulldogs. Ozmer went two innings, giving up just two hits, no runs and had two strikeouts in relief.

Now, he’ll stand as the leader in saves in program history, at least for a single season. It was Ozmer’s 15th save of the season, passing Ben Short (14).

Ozmer, a graduate student, transferred in this season from Penn. An Ivy League grad, Ozmer pitched for the Quakers for four seasons and was a two-way star there.

Coming into the season, Ozmer appeared in n 51 games (2 starts) on the bump over his four-year career with Penn, posting a career 2.98 ERA (29 ER/87.2 IP) with 92 strikeouts and 10 saves. Made 16 appearances (1 start) for the Quakers in 2024, earning a 2-1 record with a 4.02 ERA (18 ER/40.1 IP) and 45 strikeouts.

While at the plate, Ozmer posted a career .295 (51-173) average with 34 runs scored, 19 RBI, 11 doubles and two home runs in 95 games. He saw the bulk of his action in the lineup during his senior season, working 119 at-bats in 38 games (30 starts).

Ozmer is an alum of John H. Guyer High School in Denton, Texas. He was a three-year letter winner for the team and a two-time captain.

Alabama is now 38-13 going into the rubber match against Georgia Sunday. The Crimson Tide are 14-12 in a loaded SEC for the 2025 baseball season.

As of the latest On3 NCAA Baseball Tournament projections, Alabama is in the field. They are projected to be No. 2 in the Dallas Regional.
