Cause of death revealed for former Alabama running back Ahmaad Galloway
Authorities revealed the cause of death for former Alabama running back Ahmaad Galloway this week, according to TMZ.
Galloway was found dead in his St. Louis apartment in January during a welfare check after he failed to show up for work on a Monday morning. The 42-year-old suffered a fatal overdose. The Office of the Medical Examiner in St. Louis said Galloway had a combination of fentanyl, ethanol and xylazine.
Galloway played running back at Alabama from 1999-2002. In his college career, he rushed 376 times for 1,830 yards and seventeen touchdowns. Galloway’s best season came in 2001. In his junior campaign, he ran the ball 174 times for 881 yards and six touchdowns.

He wore No. 29 eventually at Alabama to honor his high school teammate who suffered a career-ending spinal cord injury.

“Ahmaad was always quiet and humble,” his sister, Kimberly Slaughter, said after his death. “My brother loved football growing up, and later loved his children Austin and Aubree.”
Galloway was a seventh-round NFL draft pick in 2003 for the Denver Broncos. He had a brief NFL career before becoming a high school football coach. At the time of his death, he was employed as an English teacher at Compton-Drew Middle School.
