Some miles are being racked up for Alabama and Charleston, with the two facing off in the Round of 64 all the way out in Spokane, WA. It’s still fitting considering they are placed in the West region, with the Crimson Tide being a four-seed and the Cougars looking to pull off the upset as a 13-seed.

You can likely expect some scoring in this one, with both programs playing a similar style. Head coaches Nate Oats and Pat Kelsey give their players the green light, averaging 30.3 (fourth in college basketball) and 30.6 (third) three-point attempts per game.

Charleston was the CAA regular season and tournament champion, earning an automatic bid. Alabama fell short in the SEC a couple of times but is hoping for a deep run in the NCAA Tournament. We should have a fun one on our hands.

Odds for Charleston vs. Alabama

According to the FanDuel Sportsbook, Alabama is nearly a double-digit favorite at -9.5. Getting the Crimson Tide on the money line would result in a -500 bet, while Charleston is +375.

As mentioned, some points are likely to be scored and the oddsmakers agree. The total is currently 173.5, by far the highest of the games scheduled for Friday. Neither team is highly rated on the defensive end either, coming in at No. 116 and No. 174, respectively, per KenPom’s Adj. Defense.

Final score predictions for Charleston vs. Alabama

BPI Predicted winner: Alabama
BPI Predicted point differential: 16
BPI Win probability (for Alabama): 90.4%
BPI Matchup Quality: 72.3

ESPN’s BPI sees Alabama finding a way to cover on Friday, getting a 16-point win. Oats would sign up for that immediately, hoping to get through to the Round of 32.

As far as matchup quality, the score is a low 72.3. In comparison to the other games taking place, Alabama-Charleston ranks No. 11 out of 16 games.

KenPom Predicted final score: Alabama 93 Charleston 82
KenPom Win probability (for Alabama): 84%

KenPom is no different than what oddsmakers and ESPN’s BPI believe. They are projecting a high-scoring affair but with Alabama eventually coming out on top.

However, the win probability is slightly lower, only giving Alabama 84% compared to the BPI’s 90.4%. Maybe there is a little more faith in Charleston on the KenPom side of things.
